Overview
About four minutes on foot from the South Exit of Kokura Station, Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kokura Ekimae is on the downtown side of the tracks. Uomachi's covered arcades begin near the entrance, while Tanga Market and Kokura Castle lie farther along the same general route. You won't need to cross back through the station for dinner or an evening walk around central Kokura.
The hotel has 175 rooms, with even the smallest measuring more than 18 square meters. A first-floor Italian restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's a less compressed stay than a basic station-front overnight, though without resort-style facilities.
Rooms
Rooms start at 18.2 square meters. The Standard Double has a 154-centimeter-wide bed and a unit bath, while Superior Doubles add floor space, a wider bed, and a bathroom with the tub separated from the toilet.
The twin categories deserve closer comparison. The 20.15-square-meter Compact Twin has a unit bath and under-bed luggage storage instead of a conventional work desk. Hollywood and Corner Twins are larger, at 26.9 and 28.2 square meters, and both have separated bathroom layouts. The Corner Twin can accommodate a third guest with an extra bed.
Facilities
Three coin-operated laundry machines operate around the clock on the seventh floor. Same-day luggage storage, free Wi-Fi, microwaves, ice, and vending machines cover the main needs of a short city stay.
The mechanical car park has 28 spaces and doesn't accept reservations. Vehicle limits apply, so drivers may need nearby paid parking if the garage is full or their car is too large.
Dining
Salvatore Cuomo & Bar Kokura serves a paid Japanese and Western breakfast buffet from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. The restaurant returns for Italian lunch and dinner, giving guests an easy in-house option throughout the day.
Dining extends beyond the hotel. The covered arcades and nearby streets have cafes, casual restaurants, and evening choices throughout the downtown grid.
Location and transport
The hotel is in Kokura Station Area, with a position that favors the south-side city center. Kokura Station handles the Sanyo Shinkansen, regional JR trains, the Kitakyushu Monorail, local buses, and airport coaches. Heiwa-dori Station on the monorail is also about two minutes away, providing another nearby starting point for local trips.
Use Kokura Station's South Exit for the shortest approach. The Shinkansen Exit and Asano convention district are on the north side of the tracks instead.
Airport access
Direct buses connect Kitakyushu Airport with Kokura Station Bus Center. The bus center is a short walk from the hotel, but this isn't a hotel-door service, so check the current stop and timetable before traveling.
Reaching Fukuoka Airport involves a change at Hakata. Take the subway between the airport and Hakata Station, then continue to Kokura by Shinkansen. The transfer adds a step, although the final walk from Kokura Station is brief.
Why stay here
An early train and an evening in downtown Kokura can fit into the same stop without much backtracking. The South Exit is close, room sizes start above the smallest business-hotel layouts, and the restaurant covers all three main meals.
Uomachi is recognized as Japan's first covered shopping arcade, but it still functions as a local shopping street alongside neighboring Kyomachi. Cafes, bakeries, and independent shops give the route more everyday character than a station mall alone.
Good to know
The hotel isn't directly connected to Kokura Station, and the four-minute approach is outdoors. The South Exit is closest; reaching the north-side Shinkansen Exit or Asano convention venues takes longer. Street entrances are locked from midnight to 6:00 AM, but checked-in guests can enter with their room key.
