Overview

Lake Kawaguchi and Mount Fuji lie on opposite sides of Konansou. Lake-facing rooms look across the water, while rooms on the other side look toward Fuji when the sky is clear. From the rooftop footbath you can see both. This traditional hot-spring inn is on the Funatsu shore, within walking distance of the sightseeing boats and Kawaguchiko Station.

Rooms

Some rooms have tatami floors, with bedding laid out at night. Others combine a Japanese sitting room with Western beds. After choosing the view, the next decision is whether you'd like a private outdoor bath. These rooms are available on both sides of the inn, so booking one doesn't necessarily mean you'll face Fuji.

Among the more spacious mountain-facing choices, the Type E room measures 102 square meters and has a separate twin bedroom, a large tatami room, and an open-air bath supplied by a natural hot spring. It sleeps up to four.

Facilities

The communal baths include outdoor sections with mountain views. If you'd like an entire bath to yourself, you can book a 50-minute session at reception on the day for an extra charge.

The rooftop footbath is more casual. You can use it fully dressed and look across the lake without reserving a bathing session.

Dining

Dinner is kaiseki, served as a succession of seasonal courses. With an in-room dining plan, groups of up to four can eat together in their room. For five or more people, the inn arranges a separate dining space. If friends are staying under another reservation, request a shared meal when booking.

Guests with dinner included must check in by 6 p.m. Arriving later means the meal is cancelled without a refund. Breakfast is less formal, with a buffet of Japanese and Western dishes served in the third-floor restaurant.

Location and transport

Konansou is about ten minutes on foot from Kawaguchiko Station. If you're carrying bags, call the inn from the station for a free pickup during shuttle hours. A return service runs the following morning. Outside those hours, the alternatives are walking or taking a taxi.

Airport access

Direct highway buses run from Haneda Airport to Kawaguchiko Station. Konansou's shuttle handles only the final stretch between the station and the inn. If dinner is included on your arrival night, allow for road traffic when choosing a bus.

Why stay here

Few parts of a stay here depend on having a car. You can walk down to the water after breakfast, and if you're back in time for kaiseki, there's no need to head out again for dinner.

Sightseeing boats depart from the nearby Funatsu shore, while the lakeside ropeway climbs Mount Tenjo for a view from above. The boat and ropeway are close enough to combine before returning to the inn.
