Overview
Cross the south plaza at Himeji Station, and Richmond Hotel Himeji is about six minutes away on foot. The hotel is on the quieter side of the tracks, while Himeji Castle, Kokoen, most shopping, and the main sightseeing route lie north of the station.
The location works for an overnight castle visit, an early Shinkansen departure, or a work trip that calls for a proper desk and easy laundry. You'll need to cross the station to reach the castle side, but the route is simple.
Rooms
The 216 rooms range from 16.8-square-meter single and double rooms to 25.8-square-meter twins. Smaller rooms have one 140-centimeter bed and a unit bath. Twins have two beds, with the washbasin, bathroom, and toilet in separate spaces; selected twins accept an extra bed for a third guest. A universal room is available by direct request.
Wide desks and bright lighting are a genuine advantage for laptop work. Simmons beds, humidifying air purifiers, phone chargers, and empty refrigerators cover the essentials without crowding the rooms with extras.
Facilities
Longer stays are easy to manage. Coin laundry is on the second floor, while the sixth floor has vending machines, an ice machine, and a microwave. Self-service machines in the lobby speed up check-in and checkout.
Drivers need a separate plan. The hotel has neither dedicated nor partner parking, so guests must use nearby coin-operated lots and pay the operator directly.
Dining
Breakfast gives the hotel much of its Himeji character. The first-floor buffet runs from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM, serving the hotel's almond toast alongside Japanese and Western dishes. Regional selections may include Awaji Island onion tempura, Akashiyaki, and seasoned rice with sea bream, octopus, or conger eel.
From 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the same room becomes a lounge for staying guests. Coffee and soft drinks are free, and counter seats have power outlets. It's a welcome place to cool down after the castle walk, plan the next day's trains, or finish some work outside the room.
Location and transport
The hotel is in the Himeji Station Area, about six minutes from JR Himeji and ten minutes from Sanyo Himeji. Use JR Himeji for the Sanyo Shinkansen and conventional JR services toward Kobe, Osaka, Okayama, and destinations farther west. Sanyo Himeji is a separate station for Sanyo Electric Railway trains toward Kobe and Osaka.
To reach Himeji Castle, pass through JR Himeji Station to the north exit, then walk along Otemae-dori or take a local bus to Otemon-mae. The official estimate from the station to the castle is about 20 minutes on foot, so the south-side approach from the hotel adds to that journey.
Airport access
There is no hotel shuttle. Airport limousine buses connect the Himeji station area with Osaka Itami Airport and Kansai International Airport, with the final leg between the bus terminal and the hotel completed on foot. Check the current stop and timetable before traveling because departures are limited.
Rail travel from Kansai International Airport normally requires a change in Osaka or Shin-Osaka before continuing to Himeji. When the schedule matches your flight, the bus can reduce luggage handling.
Why stay here
A short walk from JR Himeji brings a quieter south-side setting, a breakfast with local dishes, and a lounge that remains useful after the buffet closes. Work-friendly desks and coin laundry help on longer stays, while the separated bathroom, toilet, and washbasin make twin rooms worth considering for two or three guests. The tradeoff is less immediate access to the Shinkansen platforms, the castle side, and parking.
Good to know
Check-in begins at 2:00 PM, and checkout is at 11:00 AM. The walk from JR Himeji Station isn't covered all the way, and both the castle approach and airport buses are on the opposite side of the tracks from the hotel. Travelers who want the shortest possible route from a Shinkansen platform or guaranteed parking should compare other options around the station.
