Overview
Nijo-jo Castle stands directly across Horikawa-dori from ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kyoto. Nijojo-mae Station is about one minute away on foot, while a complimentary scheduled shuttle runs to Kyoto Station. Few central Kyoto hotels combine a castle-front setting with both options.
With 282 rooms and several restaurants, the hotel can accommodate leisure stays as well as larger meetings and events. Banquet spaces and substantial guest services support that role. It also keeps Kyoto Station within reach without placing guests in the station district itself.
Rooms
Room choice starts with the view. Castle-side categories look across Horikawa-dori toward Nijo-jo, while city-side rooms provide different layouts and price points. Castle View Deluxe rooms measure roughly 28 square meters and come in twin and double configurations.
Premium Castle View Twin rooms expand to 56 square meters. The 140-square-meter Castle Suite has separate living and dining areas plus a private sauna, while city-side choices include a 44-square-meter Penthouse Junior Suite. Standard rooms, connecting rooms, rollaway beds, and a wheelchair-accessible room add further flexibility.
Book the exact category rather than relying on the hotel name alone. Views, bed types, and floor space vary considerably, and not every room faces the castle.
Facilities
Lobby services include coffee, luggage storage, and assistance with paid baggage delivery to Kyoto Station or another accommodation in Kyoto. Meeting and banquet spaces support events as well as overnight stays. Drivers can use the 100-space underground garage without charge during the hotel's designated stay period, subject to posted operating hours.
Older listings may still show a basement pool and public sauna, but both closed permanently at the end of March 2026. There is no longer a pool. The private sauna in the Castle Suite remains available as a separate in-room feature.
Dining
Cafe Restaurant Cozy serves a Japanese and Western breakfast buffet from 7:00 to 10:00 AM. Other options include teppanyaki, Szechwan cuisine, French dining by advance reservation, and drinks in the lobby lounge. Room service is currently available from late morning until 11:00 PM.
That's a broader selection than most castle-area stays provide, although the venues follow different schedules. Check current opening days, reservation requirements, and meal-plan inclusions before planning an evening around a particular restaurant.
Location and transport
The hotel is in Nijo Castle Area, with the castle entrance and moat immediately across Horikawa-dori. Nijojo-mae is the nearest subway station. Exit 2 is about one minute away, while step-free access is available from the Exit 1 side.
The Tozai Line reaches Karasuma Oike Station in one stop, where passengers can change to the Karasuma Line for Shijo or Kyoto Station. Karasuma Oike is also around 12 minutes away on foot, and Hankyu Omiya Station is around 15 minutes away.
The complimentary shuttle runs directly between the hotel and Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit on a published timetable. It helps with luggage, but departures are scheduled rather than on demand, and traffic can cause delays. Check the current timetable before depending on a particular service.
Airport access
From Kansai International Airport, take the JR Haruka or an airport limousine bus to Kyoto Station. From Osaka Itami Airport, limousine buses also serve Kyoto Station. The final leg can be completed by the hotel's scheduled shuttle, the subway via Karasuma Oike, or taxi.
There is no direct hotel airport shuttle. The journey is straightforward, but plans need to account for the transfer at Kyoto Station and the hotel bus schedule.
Why stay here
Nijo-jo outside the door, a subway stop around the corner, and several on-site restaurants give this hotel a distinctive combination of sightseeing and convenience. Castle-view rooms bring the setting into the stay, especially if you want to visit the grounds early or return after exploring elsewhere in Kyoto.
The tradeoff becomes clearer after dark. This part of central Kyoto is calmer than Gion or the Shijo-Kawaramachi shopping area, so visitors seeking dense nightlife may prefer another district. For castle visits, meetings, parking, or a scheduled ride to Kyoto Station, the arrangement is unusually convenient.
Good to know
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, and checkout is by 11:00 AM. Assistance dogs are accepted, but ordinary pets are not allowed.
The shorter name ANA Crowne Plaza Kyoto refers to the same hotel. More importantly, disregard old pool photographs or amenity lists: the former basement pool and public sauna no longer operate.
