Overview
South of Shijo's main shopping streets, ASAI Kyoto Shijo combines compact rooms with Thai dining and a lively shared lounge. The hotel is between Gojo Station and Shijo Station on the Karasuma subway line, so central Kyoto is easy to explore on foot while longer trips can begin by train.
Much of the activity happens in the communal spaces. The lounge hosts DJ nights and cultural events, while the restaurant serves food from breakfast through dinner. Check the event calendar if you'd like to take part during your stay.
Rooms
Cosy Twins are on the first basement level and have no view, while Comfy Twins and Comfy Kings have city views. All three categories measure 16 square meters.
The 18-square-meter Comfy Corner Hollywood Twin provides a little more space. All rooms are non-smoking and have rain showers, a small work desk, and a mini fridge. For more room to sit or work, head to the shared lounge.
Facilities
Electrical sockets and free Wi-Fi make it possible to work in the communal lounge, where artworks from Kyoto and elsewhere in Japan decorate the space.
An accessible room category and wheelchair-accessible restrooms are available. A wheelchair lift connects the entrance and basement level, though guests requiring step-free access should confirm the room and entrance arrangements when booking.
Dining
Soi Gaeng, the hotel's Thai restaurant and bar, serves curries and street-food dishes alongside Thai-inspired cocktails and craft beer. Non-alcoholic options include Thai milk tea and butterfly pea tea.
Breakfast is a set meal rather than a buffet, with Thai chicken rice porridge as well as Japanese and American choices. Service runs from 7:00 to 10:30, with last orders at 10:00. Check whether breakfast is included in your booking.
Location and transport
Gojo Station's Exit 1 is about four minutes away on foot, while Shijo Station's Exit 5 is about five minutes away. From Kyoto Station, take the northbound Karasuma Line one stop to Gojo and walk from there.
For east-west subway trips, change to the Tozai Line at Karasuma Oike Station.
Airport access
From Kansai Airport, the JR Haruka express runs directly to Kyoto Station. From there, continue by subway to Gojo or take a taxi to the hotel. The journey requires that final connection because the Haruka doesn't serve the hotel's neighborhood.
Why stay here
The restaurant and lounge give you somewhere to spend an evening at the hotel, while the central location favors days out on foot. Book a Comfy category if a city view matters to you.
Walk north toward Shijo for department stores and shopping streets, then continue to Nishiki Market for its food shops. The market is just north of Shijo Street, so both areas can be combined on foot.
Good to know
Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is at noon. There is no on-site parking.
