Overview
Downtown Matsuyama is the reason to stay here. The hotel stands beside Okaido Station at the northern end of the city center. The covered arcade and Ropeway Street define Matsuyama Okaido, with the approach to the Matsuyama Castle ropeway just across the road.
The top-floor SkySpa is the defining feature, with indoor and open-air baths above the city. It gives you somewhere to unwind after sightseeing without putting you inside Dogo Onsen's hot-spring district.
Rooms
Rooms start at 17 square meters, with double, king, and twin layouts. Larger king and twin categories reach 24 square meters, and all listed rooms are non-smoking and furnished with Simmons beds.
Room names indicate the main differences. Wide-desk categories are arranged for work, sofa categories add a separate seat, and two terrace types include an 11-square-meter outdoor area. The smaller terrace twin has a shower instead of a bathtub.
Facilities
The SkySpa has separate men's and women's areas, each with indoor and open-air baths. The women's open-air bath looks toward Matsuyama Castle, while the men's side faces the city and sunset. A dry sauna is available in the men's spa and a steam sauna in the women's spa.
Bathing hours run from 3:00 PM until 11:00 AM the following morning. The saunas close between 2:00 and 6:00 AM, but the long bath hours still accommodate late arrivals and early starts.
Dining
Breakfast is served from 6:30 to 9:30 AM in the ninth-floor restaurant. The spread combines hot Western dishes, a lacto-ovo vegetarian selection, freshly baked pastries, and a dish that changes daily.
For other meals, the covered arcade and Ropeway Street have plenty of places to eat outside the hotel. You won't need to return to a major railway hub just for dinner.
Location and transport
Okaido is a city-center tram stop rather than Matsuyama's main railway station. The tram ride takes about 13 minutes from JR Matsuyama Station and about eight minutes from Matsuyama City Station, then continues toward Dogo Onsen.
Paid affiliated parking is available to overnight guests, although spaces can be limited. Drivers should plan to use an affiliated car park rather than an on-site garage.
Airport access
The Matsuyama Airport to Dogo Onsen limousine bus stops at Okaido, providing a direct ride from the airport to the hotel's immediate area in about 30 minutes. It isn't a hotel shuttle, so check the current timetable and exact boarding point before traveling.
Why stay here
After the castle or shopping arcade, you can return for a rooftop bath without leaving downtown. The tram and airport bus handle arrival and local travel, while the compromise is the distance from the main JR platforms and Dogo Onsen's hot-spring district.
Okaido's covered, pedestrian-only arcade runs south toward Gintengai. At its northern end, Ropeway Street leads toward the Matsuyama Castle ropeway, giving the stay a natural mix of shopping, central dining, and castle sightseeing.
Good to know
Bring your room towel to the SkySpa because towels aren't stocked there. Tattoo covers are available from the front desk, and affiliated parking is paid rather than included with the room.
