Overview
Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo Karasuma is a one-minute walk from Shijo Station, close to Nishiki Market and the shops and restaurants along Shijo Street. Kyoto Station is two subway stops south.
Compared with staying beside Kyoto Station, you'll add a short subway ride before catching the Shinkansen. In return, downtown Kyoto is right outside, which helps when a day combines sightseeing with shopping, dinner, or time around Nishiki Market.
Rooms
All 125 rooms are smoke-free. King and twin categories range from standard rooms to larger layouts and junior suites, with locally inspired decor and a dedicated work area. Free Wi-Fi is available for work or trip planning between days out.
Facilities
The third-floor fitness center is open around the clock. A paid laundromat and same-day dry cleaning help on longer trips, while luggage storage is available before check-in and after departure.
There is no on-site parking. Drivers need to use a nearby coin-operated car park.
Dining
Le Bon Vivre is operated by Shinshindo, a Kyoto bakery with more than a century of history. Bread is central to the menu, and the restaurant serves breakfast before continuing through lunch, cafe hours, and dinner. Room service is also available.
Location and transport
The Karasuma Line keeps the main transfers straightforward. Kyoto Station is two stops south for the Tokaido Shinkansen, JR trains, and airport rail. One stop north, Karasuma Oike Station connects with the Tozai Line.
Nishiki Market is within walking distance, while the wider Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma district has department stores, restaurants, and shops along the downtown corridor. After sightseeing, you won't need to cross the city again for dinner or everyday purchases.
Airport access
The JR Haruka runs directly between Kansai International Airport and Kyoto Station. From there, the Karasuma Line continues two stops to Shijo. The hotel doesn't provide an airport shuttle, so the final leg requires a rail transfer or a taxi from Kyoto Station.
Why stay here
The one-minute walk to Shijo Station simplifies daily subway trips, while the downtown location brings dining and shopping closer than a stay beside Kyoto Station. The tradeoff is an extra subway ride when the day begins with the Shinkansen or another JR departure.
Central Kyoto's main shopping corridor follows Shijo Street, with Nishiki Market nearby and Kawaramachi farther east. Evenings can stay flexible: return from sightseeing, take a break, then head out again without another long journey across the city.
Good to know
The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Shijo closed at this address in September 2024. Following renovation, the building reopened as Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Shijo Karasuma in August 2025, so older Royal Park listings don't refer to a separate operating hotel.
The hotel is close to Shijo Station but isn't directly connected, and the one-minute walk is outdoors. Le Bon Vivre is independently operated, so Marriott Bonvoy points aren't earned at the restaurant and breakfast is charged separately.
