Overview
Top-floor baths stay open overnight at Dormy Inn Izumo. The hotel is one minute on foot from the South Exit of Izumoshi Station. Izumo Taisha is a separate train or bus trip from this part of the city.
Rooms
All rooms are non-smoking. Doubles measure 14.2–14.8 square metres and have a 140-centimetre-wide bed, while Queens provide 18.9–19.6 square metres and a wider bed. Standard Twins have two beds in 20.2–21.7 square metres.
For three guests, Deluxe Twins provide 27.3–29.3 square metres, with two beds and a sofa bed for the third person. An accessible room is also available. Regular rooms have shower booths, with the communal baths upstairs for a soak.
Facilities
The men's and women's baths occupy the eleventh floor. Indoor baths use natural hot-spring water brought from the Izumo Taisha area. Both bath areas also have open-air baths, a sauna and a cold bath. The baths are open from 3pm until 10am the following morning, although the saunas close between 1am and 5am.
Uncovered tattoos aren't permitted in the baths. Reception provides cover stickers, but check whether your tattoos can be fully covered before planning to use the facilities.
Self-service laundry is on the same floor. Luggage storage before check-in and on the day of check-out lets you leave your bags while sightseeing.
Dining
Hatago, the first-floor restaurant, serves a paid breakfast buffet with Izumo soba among its local dishes. Service runs from 6:30am to 9:15am, with last admission at 8:45am, and breakfast may already be included in your room plan.
Complimentary soy-sauce ramen is served from 9:30pm to 11pm. It's a late-night snack, not a full dinner.
Location and transport
JR Izumoshi has Yakumo limited express services to Matsue and Okayama Station, where you can change to the Shinkansen. Use the South Exit for the hotel.
Ichibata trains leave from the separate Dentetsu Izumoshi Station, about three minutes from the hotel on foot. Most rail journeys to Izumo Taisha require a change at Kawato for Izumotaisha-mae, followed by a walk of about ten minutes to the shrine. Buses from the JR station provide an alternative.
Airport access
Direct buses connect Izumo Airport with JR Izumoshi in about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. They use the North Exit, on the opposite side of the station from the hotel. Allow time to reach that side before your flight, as the bus doesn't stop at the hotel.
Why stay here
After a JR arrival, you can leave your luggage at the hotel before heading out to explore. There's time for a bath after dinner, without having to travel to an onsen outside the city centre.
A visit to Izumo Taisha can also include lunch and shopping along Shinmon-dori, the street leading to the shrine. Its soba restaurants and souvenir shops are in the shrine district, so plan these together before returning to central Izumo.
Good to know
Check-in starts at 3pm, and check-out is by 11am. Contact the hotel in advance if you'll arrive after 10pm. Drivers use paid partner parking on a first-come basis because there is no dedicated hotel car park.
