What this station is useful for

Overview

Izumoshi Station serves the JR Sanin Main Line and Yakumo limited express trains in central Izumo. Hotels and airport buses are close to the North Exit. The neighboring Dentetsu Izumoshi Station is operated by a different railway and provides the local rail connection toward Izumo Taisha.

Lines and connections

Yakumo limited express trains link Izumoshi with Matsue and Okayama Station. At Okayama, transfer to the Shinkansen for travel farther east or west. Izumoshi has no Shinkansen platforms.

To reach Izumo Taisha by rail, leave the JR station and walk about three minutes east from the North Exit to Dentetsu Izumoshi. Ichibata Railway journeys usually involve a change at Kawato before continuing to Izumotaisha-mae. Buses from the JR station offer another option if you'd rather avoid the train transfer.

Airport access

Direct buses run from the North Exit to Izumo Airport in about 30 minutes, though traffic can lengthen the journey. Services follow a timetable, so check which departure matches your flight instead of assuming a bus will be waiting when your train arrives.

Station area

Hotels in the Izumoshi Station Area are found on both sides of the tracks. The North Exit is more convenient for buses and the walk to Ichibata trains, and Twin Leaves Hotel Izumo is about one minute away.

Inside and beside the station are places to eat, convenience shopping, and coin lockers. Atnes Izumo also has souvenir shops and tourist information, handy for purchases or local planning before leaving the station neighborhood.

What's nearby

Izumo Taisha and the shops along Shinmon-dori require a separate bus or local train journey; they aren't immediately outside the JR station. Once there, you can explore the shrine approach on foot and stop for Izumo soba.

Good to know

Ticket machines handle sales, including machines with remote operator assistance, but there isn't a staffed JR ticket counter. Allow time to collect tickets and walk between the JR and Ichibata stations when continuing toward the shrine.
