Overview
Kyoto's two subway lines meet at Karasuma Oike Station, a four-minute walk from Four Points Flex by Sheraton Kyoto Oike. From here, you can travel north-south or east-west across the city. The Kyoto International Manga Museum is also within walking distance.
The stay is straightforward: non-smoking rooms, a breakfast restaurant, and laundry facilities. Room size deserves attention, since the largest layouts offer almost twice the floor area of the smallest.
Rooms
Single, double, and twin rooms range from about 14 to 26 square meters. Space at the smaller end can feel limited when you're sharing or carrying several bags, so compare floor area as carefully as bed type.
Rooms have a worktable if you need to use a laptop, plus a mini fridge for drinks or food bought nearby.
Facilities
Coin-operated laundry is handy during a multi-night stay or a longer trip through Japan. Water and ice dispensers are also available, and reception is staffed around the clock.
There is no on-site parking. Arriving by subway or taxi is simpler, while drivers will need to arrange a nearby paid car park separately.
Dining
Garden serves a breakfast buffet from 7:00 to 10:30, with Japanese and Western dishes, vegan options, and dishes prepared with seasonal Kyoto produce. Breakfast is available for a fee; check whether it's already included in your chosen rate.
The restaurant is independently operated, which means Marriott Bonvoy member benefits don't apply there. Room service isn't available.
Location and transport
From Kyoto Station, take the northbound Karasuma Line three stops to Karasuma Oike, then walk to the hotel. The final approach is along the street rather than through a direct station connection.
For Nijo Castle, the Tozai Line runs one stop west to Nijojo-mae Station. Eastbound trains serve Sanjo Keihan Station and Higashiyama, so a day on Kyoto's eastern side can begin on the same subway line. There's no need to return to Kyoto Station for those trips.
Airport access
From Kansai International Airport, the JR Haruka limited express runs directly to Kyoto Station. Change there to the Karasuma Line for Karasuma Oike.
From Osaka Itami Airport, take an airport limousine bus to Kyoto Station, then continue by subway or taxi. Neither route is a hotel shuttle, so remember to include the final local journey in your arrival plans.
Why stay here
Having both subway lines nearby helps when your Kyoto itinerary extends in several directions. Breakfast and laundry in the building reduce everyday errands during a multi-night stay, although the smaller rooms leave limited space for relaxing indoors.
The Kyoto International Manga Museum offers a nearby alternative to temple visits. Housed in a former school building, it combines exhibitions with shelves of manga that visitors can read on site, including a collection in several languages.
Good to know
Marriott Bonvoy benefits here differ from those at full-service Sheraton hotels. Room upgrades aren't offered, so book the size and layout you want rather than relying on a status upgrade.
