Overview
From Karuizawa Station's North Exit, it's about a three-minute walk to Hotel Grand Vert Kyu Karuizawa. Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is around seven minutes away on foot, on the other side of the tracks, while local buses and rental bicycles offer ways to explore farther afield.
Rooms are divided between the main building, renovated in 2021, and a newer wing that opened in 2019. Alongside doubles and twins, the choice extends to larger layouts for families and friends, including a four-bedroom Grand Room.
Rooms
Standard doubles and twins in both buildings measure 27 square meters. For wider beds, compare the new wing's Standard Twins, which have 120-centimeter-wide beds rather than the 97-centimeter beds in the main building's Twin rooms. Every room has a bathtub with a separate washing area, and all guest rooms are non-smoking.
For groups, the main choice is between all-bed layouts and rooms with futons. The new wing's 40-square-meter Deluxe Triple has three permanent beds, while the 47-square-meter Deluxe Fourth has four. Japanese-Western rooms combine two beds with futons on tatami flooring: the 33-square-meter Standard layout sleeps four, and the 50-square-meter Deluxe sleeps six.
The Grand Room is the only four-bedroom option and accommodates up to nine people using six beds and three futons. Its total area of 200 square meters includes the terrace. A kitchen and separate bedrooms allow the group to eat together while retaining some privacy, and a large-screen projector adds the option of a movie night.
Facilities
More than 2,000 books fill the library and staircase shelves, and guests can borrow them to read in their rooms. The second-floor lounge provides complimentary drinks in the morning and again from mid-afternoon into the evening. In winter, the fireplace is lit.
Bicycles are available to hire by the day, including electric-assist models. Families can request baby baths, bed guards, and high chairs in advance. Cribs cost extra and require a reservation because numbers are limited.
Free luggage storage is available before check-in and after checkout. There isn't a coin laundry, although reception can arrange a laundry service. The elevator is in the newer wing, with a connecting passage leading to rooms in the main building.
Dining
Breakfast is delivered to your room in a picnic basket. Choose an egg dish, such as an omelet or quiche, or a hot sandwich; each option comes with different sides. If breakfast isn't included in your booking, it can be added for a fee by asking reception before 10pm the previous evening.
The second-floor GrandBar is open to overnight guests only, from 5pm to 10pm. It serves Japanese and international whiskies alongside local craft beer and wine. There isn't an in-house restaurant, so plan to have dinner nearby. Guests staying in the Grand Room can instead pre-order barbecue or hot-pot sets at least three days ahead, with a minimum order for three people.
Location and transport
From the station's North Exit, walk to the Karuizawa Station Entrance intersection and turn left. The hotel is opposite the Yaotoku supermarket and FamilyMart. The short approach is outdoors, and there is no station shuttle.
Asama and selected Hakutaka services on the Hokuriku Shinkansen connect Tokyo with Karuizawa in roughly 70 minutes, depending on the train. Shinano Railway serves local trips to Naka-Karuizawa and onward toward Komoro and Ueda. Buses from the station also run to Old Karuizawa, so you don't have to walk the entire way to its shopping streets.
Why stay here
Luggage storage on arrival and departure days lets you explore the Karuizawa Station Area before check-in or after checkout without carrying your bags. Families and friends can share a larger room without giving up the short walk to the station.
South of the station, Prince Shopping Plaza has more than 200 stores, including fashion outlets and outdoor brands. To the north, Old Karuizawa Ginza offers a different shopping experience along a 750-meter street lined with established bakeries, coffee shops, and souvenir stores.
Good to know
Free parking requires a reservation. Provide your car details when booking or contact the hotel before arrival; even with a reservation, you may be directed to the second parking area. The drive from Usui-Karuizawa Interchange takes about 20 minutes.
Heating and cooling modes are controlled centrally, so you can't switch between them yourself. Ask reception for a fan, heater, or extra blanket if needed. Standard check-in runs from 3pm to 11pm, and checkout is at 11am. Let the hotel know if you'll arrive later than planned.
