Overview

Hotel Metropolitan Kamakura is located on Wakamiya-oji, about two minutes on foot from the east exit of JR Kamakura Station. It is a good fit for travelers who want to stay in central Kamakura rather than visit as a hurried day trip, with the station, shopping streets, and major sightseeing routes all close at hand.

The location is especially convenient if your plans combine the historic center with Enoden stops along the coast. Komachi-dori is nearby for casual browsing and meals, while the approach toward Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is easy to follow on foot. Because the hotel is so close to the rail hub, it also works well for travelers arriving with luggage or planning to make side trips without changing hotels.

Rooms

The hotel has 138 rooms, with double and twin layouts ranging from compact 20 sqm rooms to 45 sqm premium corner rooms. The smaller categories suit travelers who expect to spend most of the day out sightseeing, while the larger rooms are a better match for guests who want more space to unpack or relax between outings.

Some corner rooms look toward the red torii gate of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, giving those rooms a stronger sense of place without moving away from the convenience of the station area. A Universal Twin room is also available, but it must be reserved by phone.

Facilities

Guest facilities cover the practical basics for a short Kamakura stay, including free Wi-Fi, coin laundry, and vending machines. An ice machine and a designated smoking area are also provided.

The hotel is fully non-smoking in its guest rooms, which is helpful for travelers who prefer a clearer room policy when booking. There is also foreign currency exchange and a MUJIcom store on site. Guest parking is available by reservation, but it is limited, so it should not be treated as guaranteed unless arranged in advance.

Dining

Cafe&Meal MUJI is located on the first floor. Breakfast is a guest-only buffet with about 80 dishes, giving guests an easy start before heading out to temples, shopping streets, or the Enoden.

From late morning, the restaurant also serves an all-day menu. That makes it convenient for a low-effort meal or break without leaving the building, particularly after returning from coastal sightseeing or a long walk through central Kamakura.

Location and transport

The main advantage here is the short walk to Kamakura Station. JR trains connect Kamakura with Yokohama and Tokyo, while Ofuna functions as a major nearby interchange for other JR routes. Shinagawa is also straightforward to reach by rail.

The adjacent Enoden terminal is just as important for sightseeing. It is the natural route for Hase and the Great Buddha area, then onward toward the coast and Fujisawa. For beach and island stops such as Shichirigahama and Enoshima, being able to reach the Enoden quickly can make the day feel much smoother.

Staying this close to the station also reduces the usual friction of a Kamakura visit. You can drop bags before walking toward the central sights, return easily between outings, and avoid building the whole day around a single arrival and departure window.

Why stay here

Choose Hotel Metropolitan Kamakura if you want a comfortable, central hotel with very little transport friction. Its strongest points are the two-minute walk from Kamakura Station, immediate access to the main sightseeing streets, and easy Enoden connections for coastal stops.

It is particularly well suited to travelers who want to see more than one side of Kamakura: the historic center around Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the station-area dining and shopping streets, and the Enoden route toward Hase or Enoshima. For that kind of itinerary, the location keeps plans simple without requiring a car.

Good to know

Parking is limited and requires advance reservation. Even with a parking space, driving is not always the easiest way to use this location, as roads around Kamakura can become heavily congested.

For most visitors, rail is better for arriving and leaving, the Enoden is better for coastal movement, and walking is the easiest way to cover the central area. Local buses can help on some routes, but the hotel's strongest advantage is that many common plans can begin on foot from the station area.
