Overview
Rain is less of a problem here. Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Tokyo-Shiodome occupies part of the Shiodome Sumitomo Building, with a direct underground passage to Shiodome Station. The Toei Oedo Line is about one minute away, while the Yurikamome station is reached in about one minute via the second-floor pedestrian deck.
Shimbashi Station is roughly eight minutes away through an underground walkway. The longer approach adds JR services, the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, and the Toei Asakusa Line. Shiodome is easier with luggage, but Shimbashi's wider choice of routes may better suit the day's plans.
Rooms
Room size varies enough to affect the stay. Moderate Doubles measure 18 square meters, while Superior Queen and Superior Twin rooms provide 20 square meters. Every guest room has been renovated.
The 30-square-meter Deluxe floor offers more choice, although the layouts aren't interchangeable. Some Deluxe Twins have a shower booth and accommodate up to four people; another layout accommodates up to three and provides a separate bath with a washing area. The 60-square-meter Executive King and Executive Twin rooms combine beds with a Japanese-style living area for groups of up to four.
Facilities
Automated check-in machines simplify arrivals, and coin laundry is helpful on longer trips. The fitness room is free for staying guests from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., but you'll need to bring your own shoes and workout clothes.
Luggage storage is available before check-in and after check-out on the same day. Indoor parking requires an advance reservation, so drivers should secure a space before arriving.
Dining
THE TIDE TOKYO Grill Station serves a daily breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 10:00. Its open kitchen prepares grilled meat and fish, accompanied by egg dishes, salads, bread, and Japanese breakfast choices.
Lunch and dinner follow a different schedule. On weekdays, the restaurant serves a half-buffet lunch and an a la carte dinner, but neither is part of the regular weekend service. Keep that distinction in mind if you expect to eat at the hotel after breakfast.
Location and transport
Each nearby rail link serves a distinct purpose. The Oedo Line runs directly to Roppongi and Shinjuku, while the Yurikamome follows the waterfront through Odaiba and Ariake toward Toyosu. These are the easiest services to reach from the hotel.
Shimbashi adds JR trains across central Tokyo, the Ginza Line for Ginza, Asakusa, and Shibuya, and the Asakusa Line for selected airport through-services. Shinkansen journeys still require a local connection to Tokyo Station or Shinagawa.
Airport access
Selected Keikyu and Toei Asakusa Line through trains connect Haneda Airport directly with Shimbashi in about 30 minutes. From Narita Airport, Keisei Access Express trains can also run directly to Shimbashi in around 70 minutes.
Not every train completes the journey without a transfer. Check the destination and service type before boarding, then allow for the roughly eight-minute underground walk between Shimbashi and the hotel.
Why stay here
The underground passage from Shiodome is the clearest advantage when rain or luggage makes an outdoor transfer tedious. The Oedo Line handles cross-city sightseeing, the Yurikamome heads toward the bay, and Shimbashi broadens the network when you're willing to walk farther. Compact entry-level rooms, a local connection before Shinkansen journeys, and weekday-only lunch and dinner are the main tradeoffs.
Hama-rikyu Gardens is nearby, with a tidal pond and teahouse below Shiodome's towers. After dark, Shimbashi's narrow restaurant lanes are busier and less formal. The large Ghibli-designed clock at Shiodome Sio-Site is another nearby landmark.
Good to know
The Toei Oedo Line and Yurikamome use separate gates and approaches, even though both stations are named Shiodome. Follow the operator and building signs rather than relying on the station name alone.
Occupancy and bathroom design vary within the Deluxe Twin category. Check whether your chosen room has a separate bathing area or a shower booth, especially when booking for three or four people.
