Overview
Direct airport buses stop at Nara Prefectural Convention Center, about two minutes from Novotel Nara. The hotel is in Nara Convention Center Area, eight minutes on foot from Shin-Omiya Station, and west of central Nara's park-side sights. With 264 rooms, public baths, family layouts, and free station shuttles, it provides a fuller range of services than the simpler hotels around Nara's main rail hubs.
There is a clear tradeoff. Guests gain an easy airport-bus stop, larger room choices, and a convenient starting point for Heijo Palace Site. Nara Park and Naramachi aren't a short walk from the lobby, however, so you'll usually need the shuttle or other local transport.
Rooms
Novotel Nara has 264 rooms across a varied lineup. Entry-level categories begin at 24 square meters, with a choice of shower-only or bathtub layouts, while Superior Twin rooms offer 32 square meters. The 34-square-meter family layout adds two sofa beds, and connecting rooms can give families or small groups more separation.
Tatami rooms combine two Western beds with futons in 35 square meters. Executive rooms and suites occupy the eighth and ninth floors and include Executive Lounge access, while the largest suite reaches 70 square meters. Check the category carefully because bed arrangements, occupancy limits, and bathroom styles vary.
Facilities
Guest-only public baths provide a welcome soak after a day around Nara, although there isn't a sauna. The second-floor wellness area also has a fitness room with Technogym equipment and a work lounge with soundproof booths for online calls. Coin laundry and a children's play area are nearby.
The front desk can hold luggage before check-in and until midnight after departure. Drivers have 44 paid spaces divided between surface and mechanical parking, but they are first come, first served and can't be reserved. That may matter on busy weekends or during events at the convention center.
Dining
Trattoria Ponte Nara serves a breakfast buffet featuring local vegetables and soy sauce, followed by Italian-influenced lunches and dinners based around Nara ingredients. The ground-floor Social Lounge serves coffee, afternoon tea, and evening drinks.
On the eighth floor, the Rooftop Terrace offers cocktails and views across the city and surrounding hills. Executive-room and suite guests also have access to the Executive Lounge, while room service can be ordered through the in-room smart mirror. Together, these options cover an early breakfast, a casual daytime pause, and a drink after sightseeing.
Location and transport
Shin-Omiya is the nearest rail stop, about eight minutes away on foot. Kintetsu trains run one stop east to Kintetsu Nara Station, the more convenient railhead for Nara Park and the main temple district. JR Nara Station is about 19 minutes from the hotel on foot.
Since August 1, 2026, a complimentary shuttle has connected Novotel Nara with both Kintetsu Nara and JR Nara stations. It operates during the day, with boarding available on a first-come, first-served basis. The service helps with sightseeing and luggage, but it shouldn't be treated as an all-hours transfer. The hotel isn't directly connected to any station.
Airport access
Scheduled limousine buses run from Nara Prefectural Convention Center to Kansai International Airport and Osaka Itami Airport. With the stop about two minutes from the hotel, guests can reach either airport directly without first returning to one of central Nara's stations.
This is a public bus stop, not a private hotel transfer. Timetables are more limited than an urban rail link, and reservation or ticket rules depend on the direction of travel. Check the current Nara Kotsu schedule against your flight before relying on the service, especially for an early departure or late arrival.
Why stay here
The nearby airport stop and daytime station shuttle remove much of the friction from a luggage-heavy arrival. Family rooms, public baths, work space, and several dining options also make longer stays easier. The compromise is distance: this isn't the part of Nara where you can walk straight from the lobby into Nara Park.
Heijo Palace Site is the main sightseeing reason to stay on this side of the city. Its reconstructed gates, palace buildings, open grounds, and archaeological exhibits occupy a large historic park, so it deserves a substantial outing rather than a quick stop between the east-side temples.
Good to know
Some Standard and Executive rooms have shower booths rather than bathtubs. If a private tub matters, confirm the bathroom layout when booking; the public baths provide staying guests with a separate place to soak.
The free shuttle follows a schedule and has limited seats. When its hours don't match your plans, Shin-Omiya Station, local buses, and taxis are the dependable alternatives.
