What this station is useful for

Overview

Kintetsu Nara Station is the Kintetsu Railway station closest to Nara's park-side sightseeing core. It anchors the Kintetsu Nara Station Area and is especially practical for visitors arriving by Kintetsu who want to begin with Nara Park, Kofukuji, Nara National Museum, or the streets east of the station.

Lines and connections

The station is served by the Kintetsu Nara Line and has station number A28. Kintetsu's network connects this side of Nara with Osaka Namba and Kyoto-side routes, though some journeys require a transfer at Yamato-Saidaiji depending on the service.

This is not a JR station. Travelers coming by JR from Kyoto or Osaka should compare it with JR Nara Station before deciding where to arrive, especially if a JR-side hotel, JR pass itinerary, or airport-bus stop is part of the plan.

Airport access

Nara Kotsu's Kansai International Airport route runs past or through Kintetsu Nara Station as part of the Nara line, but not every service uses every Nara-side stop. Check the exact stop before traveling, particularly when choosing among Kintetsu Nara, JR Nara, Nara Hotel, and other Nara stops with luggage.

For Osaka Itami Airport, the Nara airport limousine route serves stops such as JR Nara, Shin-Omiya, and Yamato-Saidaiji rather than Kintetsu Nara, so do not assume this station is the default Itami airport-bus stop.

Station area

Kintetsu Nara is a park-first station. Nara Park is about five minutes away on foot, and the main walking route continues toward Kofukuji, Nara National Museum, central streets, and historic areas leading deeper into the park.

Buses and taxis around the station are useful for destinations farther east within Nara Park or beyond the central sightseeing area. For many short visits, however, the main advantage is being able to leave the station and start walking toward the park almost immediately.

Good to know

Kintetsu Nara Station and JR Nara Station are separate stations in different parts of central Nara. Choose Kintetsu Nara for park-side walking access and Kintetsu rail routes; choose the JR Nara Station Area when JR rail access, a JR-side hotel, or airport-bus routing better fits the trip.
