Overview
Just north of Sapporo Station, SAPPORO HOTEL by GRANBELL offers more space and facilities than many business hotels in the station area. It is not directly connected to the station, but it combines larger rooms, high-floor baths, dining with city views, and nearby JR access to New Chitose Airport.
The hotel is about seven minutes on foot from the north side of Sapporo Station, placing JR lines, the Namboku and Toho subway lines, station shopping, and everyday services within easy reach. It works well for travelers who want reliable station access without settling for a very compact overnight stay.
Rooms
Rooms start at 24 square meters, which is generous for a city hotel near a major station. Categories include queen, twin, accessible, terrace, junior suite, and suite options, giving solo travelers, couples, friends, and guests who prefer extra floor space a broader range of choices.
Facilities
The 25th-floor hot-spring spa and sauna are the hotel's standout facilities. After winter sightseeing, shopping, or a long rail journey, they offer a comfortable place to unwind, with the high-floor setting giving the stay a more distinctive feel than a standard station-side hotel.
Other facilities focus on convenience: a fitness gym, self check-in kiosks, currency exchange, parking, and a 24-hour FamilyMart on the first floor. For snacks, drinks, or small errands, guests do not need to leave the building.
Dining
Dining is a meaningful part of the stay. Breakfast is served buffet-style, with more than 70 dishes and Hokkaido-focused options such as seafood bowls and soup curry. Later in the day, the hotel offers cafe, dinner, bar, and rooftop restaurant choices, including a 26th-floor restaurant and bar with city views.
Location and transport
Sapporo Station is the main transport advantage here. JR trains, New Chitose Airport rail service, subway lines, department stores, underground shopping, and station services are all clustered around the station's north and south sides.
Because the hotel is north of the station, it is especially convenient for rail logistics rather than nightlife. Odori and Susukino are reachable by subway or through the central underground walking network, but travelers who want late-night dining and bars right outside the door may prefer to stay farther south.
Airport access
Access to New Chitose Airport is by rail through Sapporo Station rather than by a hotel-door shuttle. JR Rapid Airport trains connect the airport with Sapporo Station in about 33 to 41 minutes, followed by a short walk from the station's north side.
Why stay here
Choose this hotel if you want to stay close to Sapporo Station while still having roomier accommodations, a high-floor spa, a gym, rooftop dining, and straightforward access to airport trains. The tradeoff is the setting: you are north of the station, not in the middle of Susukino.
The surrounding Sapporo Station Area adds helpful city context, with station shopping, JR Tower, underground routes toward Odori, and nearby sights such as the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building and Sapporo Clock Tower. For a first night, last night, shopping-focused stay, or rail-heavy Hokkaido itinerary, that convenience can matter more than having nightlife on the doorstep.
Good to know
Granbell operates more than one property in Sapporo. This hotel specifically cautions guests not to confuse the Sapporo Station-side property with GRANBELL HOTEL TANUKI, SAPPORO, so check the hotel name and north-side station location when comparing directions.
