Overview

The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo occupies floors 26 to 32 of Shinagawa East One Tower, with an indoor pedestrian route connecting it to Shinagawa Station. This high-floor, full-service option is especially convenient for airport trains and westbound Shinkansen departures.

The hotel is on the station's Konan side, an area dominated by office towers. Rooms and public spaces overlook the Tokyo skyline, while the rail connection works well for both business trips and longer journeys.

Rooms

Classic rooms range from 23 to 38 square meters. Premium rooms measure 32.5 to 38 square meters, have either one king bed or two twin beds, and accommodate up to three guests. Views vary by room orientation and may include the city, Shinagawa, or Tokyo Bay.

Club-level rooms include access to the Club InterContinental lounge, where breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails are served. The 70-square-meter Club InterContinental Suites have separate living areas and baths with views, while the 104-square-meter Peak Suite is the hotel's largest accommodation.

Facilities

The fitness center is open 24 hours and overlooks Tokyo. Other facilities include a business corner for printing and computer work, complimentary Wi-Fi in rooms and the lobby, meeting spaces, and 24-hour parking.

Parking costs 3,000 yen per night. There is no swimming pool, an important consideration for travelers comparing full-service luxury hotels.

Dining

The dining venues surround the 26th-floor atrium. Melodia Italian Grill serves Italian grill dishes, China Shadow specializes in Cantonese-inspired cuisine, and Rhythmos Cafe and Bar offers coffee, afternoon refreshments, and drinks. In-room dining is available 24 hours.

Together, these venues provide several options for dining without leaving the hotel. Teppanyaki Kazane has closed, although it may still appear in older restaurant listings.

Location and transport

From Shinagawa Station's Konan Exit, a pedestrian bridge leads to Shinagawa East One Tower, with the hotel lobby on the 26th floor. The walk takes about one minute from the exit and avoids street-level crossings, though guests must still make their way through the station from the train platforms.

Shinagawa offers excellent connections for travel west of Tokyo. Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen services run toward Nagoya, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka, while JR lines connect central Tokyo with Yokohama and Kamakura. The location is particularly convenient for early bullet-train departures or trips that continue west after a stay in Tokyo.

Airport access

Keikyu trains run directly between Haneda Airport and Shinagawa Station. The Narita Express also provides direct service from Narita Airport, with the journey taking about 70 minutes.

Both routes require a walk from the arrival platform to the Konan Exit and pedestrian bridge. Travelers carrying luggage should allow additional time to navigate the station.

Why stay here

The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo suits travelers looking for a comfortable high-floor stay with close access to Shinagawa's rail network. It is particularly well placed for Haneda arrivals, westbound Shinkansen journeys, business trips in southern Tokyo, and guests who prefer larger rooms and several in-house dining options over a nightlife-focused neighborhood.

Shinagawa also offers places to explore beyond its transport links. Maxell Aqua Park is on the station's Takanawa side, while Tennozu Isle has galleries, converted warehouses, cafes, and waterside walks. Both areas provide quieter outings away from central Tokyo's busiest sightseeing districts.

Good to know

The entrance is inside Shinagawa East One Tower, and the lobby is on the 26th floor. Follow signs for the Konan Exit, as other exits do not provide equally direct access.

The immediate Konan area is largely business-oriented. Travelers seeking lively nightlife or a traditional sightseeing atmosphere may prefer another Tokyo neighborhood, while those prioritizing Shinkansen and airport connections will benefit most from this location.
