Overview
Halfway through a trip, you can unpack at Tokyu Stay Ikebukuro and put a load of washing on without leaving your room. The hotel stands on the west side of Ikebukuro Station, near Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. It's a short walk to the Fukutoshin Line entrances; allow more time for a JR train, since those platforms are farther inside the station.
Rooms
The Standard Single measures just under 15 square meters and has a 120-centimeter-wide bed. For two guests, the Comfort Double provides a 160-centimeter-wide bed in just under 17 square meters. Even the smaller rooms have a microwave and a refrigerator with a freezer, so you don't need to upgrade simply to reheat dinner or store groceries.
For cooking, choose a room with a kitchenette. The 17.4-square-meter Residential Double adds an induction hob alongside the microwave and has the same bed width as the Comfort Double. Choose it for the hob rather than the extra floor space.
Facilities
For stays of several nights, hang the cleaning sign on the door when you'd like fresh towels and the bins emptied. Full housekeeping is provided weekly for stays of seven nights or more. Reception can store luggage before check-in and on the day of departure.
Dining
The basement food halls at Tobu Department Store are on the west side of the station, by the West Exit. You can pick up prepared side dishes for dinner in your room or buy ingredients to cook in your kitchenette. If you're booking a rate with breakfast, check which meal it includes. The hotel is changing its in-room breakfast menu.
Location and transport
Exits C1a and C1b are the closest street entrances, particularly when using the Fukutoshin Line, which runs directly to Shibuya. If you're arriving by JR, follow signs for the West Exit; the hotel is about four minutes away on foot from there. Neither estimate includes the time needed to reach street level from the train.
Airport access
From Narita Airport, the Narita Shuttle bus runs directly to Ikebukuro Station's West Exit. The rail alternative is the Keisei Skyliner to Nippori, followed by the JR Yamanote Line to Ikebukuro. The Narita Express doesn't run directly to Ikebukuro.
Buses from Haneda Airport also serve the West Exit. By rail, take the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa and transfer to the Yamanote Line. With heavy luggage, the bus avoids a train change and leaves you on the same side of the station as the hotel.
Why stay here
A few nights here can break up a longer journey: you can catch up on laundry and stock the fridge for the next morning. Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre is also nearby, so you can head out for a concert or play without crossing the station.
Sunshine City is on the other side. Use the east exit for its shops and aquarium, then follow signs toward the west exit when you're ready to return.
