Overview
Public baths open before breakfast and again until 1:00 AM at Urban Hotel Kyoto-Nijo Premium, five minutes on foot from Nijo Station. The station connects the JR Sagano Line with the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line, and a city bus stop is directly in front of the hotel. It's a convenient combination for days divided between Kyoto Station, central Kyoto, and Saga-Arashiyama.
The hotel has 169 rooms, while its restaurant serves guests from breakfast into the evening. Nijo Castle is about 15 minutes away on foot, so the castle remains within walking range without giving up a nearby JR connection across Kyoto.
Rooms
Double and Hollywood Twin rooms start at 17 square meters, while standard Twins provide 20 square meters. These compact categories have shower booths rather than bathtubs. Simmons beds are standard, and connecting Twin rooms give families or groups two separate bedrooms.
Premium Twins expand to 28 square meters and accommodate up to three guests with a sofa bed; some face the JR tracks. The 25-square-meter Universal Twin has a more accessible layout and a modular bath. Compare categories carefully if a bathtub, additional space, or distance from the railway matters.
Facilities
The two large public baths have different features. Kaede-yu contains a main pool, sauna, and cold bath, while Sakura-yu has a silk-bubble pool. Men's and women's assignments alternate daily, so each guest's available side changes with the schedule. Both baths open from 6:00 to 9:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
Four washer-dryers on the seventh floor operate around the clock. Other services include a 24-hour front desk, a communal room, and complimentary coffee, tea, and infused water during posted hours. Bags handed over before the morning cutoff can be sent to Kyoto Station through a paid same-day luggage-delivery service.
Dining
Cafe Restaurant Lavender serves a Japanese and Western breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 10:00 AM. Kyoto-style home cooking, bread, and curry provide more choice than a basic continental spread. Breakfast is included with some plans and charged separately with others.
Lunch runs from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, followed by cafe, bar, and dinner service into the evening. Guests can therefore eat at the hotel at several points during the day, although menus and operating hours may change.
Location and transport
The hotel is in Nijo Station Area, west of Kyoto's busiest visitor districts. JR West estimates the journey between Nijo and Kyoto Station at about six minutes. In the opposite direction, Sagano Line trains continue toward Saga-Arashiyama, providing a direct route into western Kyoto.
The Tozai Line runs east through Nijojo-mae and Karasuma Oike Station toward Sanjo Keihan and Higashiyama. Change at Karasuma Oike for the Karasuma Line. Nijo Castle is around 15 minutes away on foot. Nijojo-mae is closer to its entrance, but Nijo is more convenient when the JR line also matters.
Airport access
From Kansai International Airport, take the JR Haruka or an airport limousine bus to Kyoto Station, then change to the Sagano Line for Nijo. Limousine buses from Osaka Itami Airport also serve Kyoto Station, followed by the same short JR connection.
Neither route reaches the hotel door. Both require a transfer at Kyoto Station and a final five-minute walk, so allow extra time when traveling with large bags.
Why stay here
Early and late bathing hours fit easily around sightseeing, while the restaurant covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner instead of closing after the morning meal. That combination makes the hotel appealing when public baths and substantial on-site dining matter as much as nearby rail and subway links.
Nijo is particularly convenient for trips toward Saga-Arashiyama and for visitors who want Nijo Castle within walking distance. Gion and the Shinkansen platforms aren't outside the door, but central Kyoto and Kyoto Station remain straightforward to reach by subway or JR.
Good to know
Check-in begins at 3:00 PM, and checkout is by 11:00 AM. The hotel is non-smoking apart from a designated first-floor smoking area. There is no private car park, so drivers need to use nearby coin-operated parking.
The shared baths are especially relevant because most rooms are shower-only. Bath assignments alternate daily, so don't assume that the sauna or silk-bubble side will be assigned to a particular guest on every visit.
