What this station is useful for

Overview

The heart of Kinugawa Onsen begins just outside this Tobu Railway station. Hotels, restaurants, visitor information, a free footbath, and the seasonal river boat departure point are all close to the forecourt, establishing the station as the resort's main transport hub.

Nikko Kinugawa Hotel Mikazuki is about three minutes away on foot. Other hotels extend much farther along the river, so the station name alone doesn't mean your accommodation will be walkable.

Lines and connections

Kinugawa-Onsen Station is on the Tobu Kinugawa Line. Limited express trains run directly from Asakusa, while selected through services reach the resort from Shinjuku and Ikebukuro over JR and Tobu tracks. Local trips toward Tobu-Nikko usually require a change at Shimo-Imaichi.

Northbound trains continue to Shin-Fujiwara, where connections are available toward Yunishigawa Onsen and Aizu. SL Taiju steam trains operate between Shimo-Imaichi and Kinugawa-Onsen via Tobu World Square. A turntable in the station forecourt lets visitors watch the locomotive on operating days.

Airport access

Neither Tokyo airport has a direct service to Kinugawa-Onsen Station. From Haneda or Narita, travel into Tokyo and transfer to a Tobu limited express at Asakusa Station, or choose another Tokyo-side connection suited to that day's timetable.

Allow extra time. The airport journey, transfer across Tokyo, and reserved limited express should be planned together, especially after an evening arrival or before an early flight.

Station area

The Kinugawa and Kawaji Onsen Tourist Information Center near the station provides help in English and Japanese. Coin lockers are available, and the center can arrange paid luggage delivery to accommodation in the area.

Kinuta-no-Yu, a free public footbath, stands beside the station plaza. The SL turntable is another distinctive feature, although seeing a locomotive use it depends on the operating calendar rather than simply arriving during station hours.

What's nearby

The seasonal Kinugawa River Boat Tour check-in point is about five minutes away on foot. Nikko Kinugawa Hotel Mikazuki is visible from the station area and reached by an outdoor walk of about three minutes.

Buses leave the forecourt for Tobu World Square and Edo Wonderland. Tobu World Square also has its own railway station, so compare the day's train and bus times before choosing between them.

Good to know

Tobu limited express journeys from Tokyo require both a basic fare ticket and a limited express ticket. SL Taiju has a separate reserved-seat charge and operating calendar. The Japan Rail Pass doesn't cover ordinary travel on Tobu Railway.

There is no Shinkansen platform here. Travelers arriving by bullet train must transfer to local transport before reaching the Kinugawa Line, and the best interchange depends on their wider route.
