Overview
Dhawa Yura Kyoto is located in Sanjo, one minute on foot from Sanjo Keihan Station and three minutes from Keihan's Sanjo Station. The Kamo River, upper Pontocho, and the northern edge of Gion are all nearby. It's an east-side base for travelers who want restaurants, evening walks, and Higashiyama sightseeing close to the hotel.
The transport tradeoff is important. The Tozai subway and Keihan Railway meet here, but neither runs directly to Kyoto Station. Shinkansen arrivals require a change at Karasuma Oike or a taxi.
Rooms
Rooms range from the 22-square-metre Classic Double to 53-square-metre Yura Suites, with Superior, Premier, and Deluxe Corner categories in between. Every category has a tatami seating area beside the window. Twin and king options appear across most of the range, while the Classic is available only with a double bed.
The 30-square-metre Deluxe Corner rooms provide more floor area while remaining below suite level. Yura Suites add a bathtub and rain shower, double washbasins, and a walk-in closet.
Facilities
8lements Spa focuses on booked treatments rather than communal bathing. Its four single treatment rooms are used for massages, facials, and body treatments. There is no pool, sauna, or bathing area. The self-service fitness room is open 24 hours.
Near reception, the Nest lounge provides complimentary coffee, herbal tea, water, and sweets from established Kyoto shops.
Dining
GRILL 54TH serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner from an open kitchen, with grilled meat, seafood, and Kyoto ingredients on the menu. Lounge & Bar 1867 offers afternoon tea, cocktails, other drinks, and snacks into the evening.
In-room dining covers all three meals, followed by a limited supper menu overnight.
Location and transport
Sanjo Keihan and Sanjo have similar names but belong to different transport systems. Sanjo Keihan serves Kyoto's east-west Tozai subway, while Sanjo is on Keihan Railway. An underground passage links the two.
Keihan trains run south through Gion-Shijo, Tofukuji, and Fushimi-Inari, with onward services toward Osaka. The Tozai Line is useful for Kyoto City Hall, Nijo Castle, and Yamashina. Reaching Kyoto Station by subway requires a change to the Karasuma Line at Karasuma Oike.
Airport access
From Kansai International Airport, the hotel estimates 75 minutes by Haruka limited express or 90 minutes by airport limousine bus to Kyoto Station. From there, allow another transfer to Sanjo Keihan or take a taxi. The hotel estimates about 15 minutes for either option, before waiting and walking time.
Why stay here
Travelers can use mornings and evenings for Gion, Pontocho, and Kamo River walks without first crossing the city. The nearby Keihan line also simplifies outings to Fushimi Inari and can carry travelers toward central Osaka.
Repeated trips to Kyoto Station are less convenient. Every Shinkansen journey requires a transfer or taxi, so weigh that extra step against having Sanjo and Gion close by.
Good to know
Spa treatments are best booked in advance, and the spa is not an onsen or public bath. When walking in Gion, follow posted photography restrictions and don't stop, follow, or photograph geiko or maiko without permission.
