Overview
Kawagoe Tobu Hotel occupies the upper floors of U_PLACE, a commercial complex by Kawagoe Station's west exit. The station is about two minutes away on foot, and a pedestrian deck connects it with the complex, so you can step off a JR or Tobu train and reach reception without crossing town.
The location defines the stay. Arrivals are straightforward, especially with luggage, while Kawagoe's historic streets remain a bus or taxi ride to the north.
Rooms
All 168 rooms are non-smoking. The standard double is compact at 15.4 square metres, while the Comfort Double adds space and separates the bath, toilet, and washbasin. Twin rooms and Corner Triples use the same split layout, Corner Triples sleep up to three people, and a Universal Double is also available.
Those separated bathroom layouts are more comfortable when two or three people are sharing. Guest rooms occupy floors eight through eleven, above the seventh-floor lobby.
Facilities
Automatic check-in machines can shorten the arrival process. The seventh floor also has a coin laundry, free coffee, foreign-currency exchange, and a designated smoking room; the rest of the hotel is non-smoking.
Reception is above U_PLACE's shops and restaurants rather than at street level. After entering the complex, follow the hotel signs and take the lift to the seventh floor.
Dining
Breakfast is served on U_PLACE's second floor from 6:30 to 10:00, with last orders at 9:30. The Japanese and Western buffet draws on Saitama food, including locally grown rice, Kawagoe-style thick fried noodles, and Musashino udon. Its early start leaves time for sightseeing or a morning train.
Location and transport
Kawagoe Station serves the JR Kawagoe Line and Tobu Tojo Line. Tobu trains provide the simplest rail approach from Ikebukuro, while JR connects Kawagoe with Omiya and, on some services, central Tokyo via the Saikyo Line.
Most old-town sights are north of the station. Local buses are the easiest way to reach the warehouse buildings of Ichiban-gai, Toki no Kane bell tower, and Kashiya Yokocho, while a taxi may be easier with luggage. You can walk if you don't mind the longer distance.
Airport access
Direct airport buses run between Narita Airport and Kawagoe Station's west exit. Haneda service on the Kawagoe route is limited and partially suspended, so check the operator's current timetable before relying on it.
Why stay here
The west-exit location simplifies luggage-heavy arrivals and trips built around JR or Tobu trains. It is especially convenient for a one-night Kawagoe visit, a late arrival from Tokyo, or an onward journey, though you won't be sleeping among the old-town streets.
The old town is the reason to linger. Ichiban-gai's kura storehouses, Toki no Kane, and the sweet shops of Kashiya Yokocho form a compact sightseeing circuit, but they aren't outside the hotel. Plan to use a local bus or taxi from the station area, with walking as the slower option.
Good to know
The hotel has no private car park. Registered guests can use U_PLACE's commercial car park for ¥2,000 per night for up to 18 hours, but spaces can't be reserved and the car park may fill. Drivers should keep a nearby paid lot in mind as a fallback.
