Overview
RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto is a strong choice for travelers who want to stay near Kyoto Station but prefer the facilities of a larger full-service property over a compact station hotel. The hotel is in the Kyoto Station Area, about seven minutes on foot from the station, with a complimentary shuttle to and from the Hachijo Exit side.
With 489 rooms, six restaurants, a lounge and bar, banquet space, parking, and leisure facilities, it has a broader setup than many hotels around the station. That scale works well for families, business travelers, conferences, and rail-focused itineraries where arrivals, day trips, and airport transfers are part of the plan.
Rooms
Rooms span twin, double, Japanese-style, family, suite, and other categories. Executive, Premium, Kyoto-Style, and Regular floors offer different atmospheres, from modern upper-floor suites to rooms with Kyoto-inspired design details.
The range is one of the hotel's main strengths. Guests can keep a simple station-area stay, choose a family-friendly room, or move up to a higher-floor suite without leaving the Kyoto Station side of the city.
Facilities
Facilities are more extensive than at most limited-service hotels near Kyoto Station. Guests can use concierge support, a business center, currency exchange, courier and laundry services, a nursing room, souvenir shopping, free Wi-Fi, parking for 117 vehicles, and electric-vehicle charging.
Leisure options include a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, warm room, fitness gym, and men's sauna. The pool and gym carry separate fees and access rules, so they are best planned in advance rather than treated as anytime extras.
Dining
Dining is one of the clearest differences between RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto and simpler station-area hotels. The property has six restaurants plus a lounge and bar, with options for buffet dining, Japanese cuisine, Chinese cuisine, teppanyaki, French dining, and room service.
French Dining Top of Kyoto is the signature venue, with a revolving observation deck and window seats overlooking the city. Other options, including All Day Dining KAZA, Teppan-yaki AOI, Gourmand Tachibana, and Royal Ryuho, make it realistic to dine in the hotel over several nights without repeating the same style of meal.
Location and transport
The hotel is on the western side of the Kyoto Station area, close enough for easy rail access but not inside the station complex. Kyoto Station is about seven minutes away on foot, and the complimentary shuttle connects the hotel with the Hachijo Exit side in about five minutes.
That puts the Shinkansen, JR lines, subway, Kintetsu trains, taxis, and buses within reach. It is not as immediate as a hotel directly attached to Kyoto Station, but the short walk and shuttle make it a practical option for travelers who want fuller facilities near the rail hub.
Airport access
Airport access runs through Kyoto Station. From Kansai International Airport, the Haruka limited express reaches Kyoto Station in about 75 minutes, while airport limousine buses take about 80 minutes. From Osaka International Airport, airport limousine buses reach Kyoto Station in about 55 minutes.
After arriving at Kyoto Station, continue to the hotel by shuttle, taxi, or the short walk, depending on luggage and timing. This is transfer-based airport access rather than a direct hotel-door airport shuttle.
Why stay here
RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto fits travelers who want Kyoto Station convenience along with multiple restaurants, meeting facilities, parking, pool access, and enough room variety for families or groups. It trades the shortest possible platform-to-lobby route for a larger full-service setup just west of the station.
The surrounding Kyoto Station side is more practical than old-town atmospheric, but it has real advantages. Station shopping, AEON Mall Kyoto, Toji, Nishi Honganji, Kyoto Aquarium, and Kyoto Railway Museum all fit naturally into this part of the city.
Good to know
This is not a hotel inside Kyoto Station. If every minute to the Shinkansen platforms matters, compare properties directly connected to the station. If you value broader dining, meeting, parking, and leisure facilities nearby, RIHGA Royal Hotel Kyoto becomes the stronger choice.
