Why stay here

Overview

Start near Arita Station if you're arriving by limited express and want to visit the Kyushu Ceramic Museum before heading farther into town. Arita Station Area covers the station neighborhood and nearby accommodation, not the entire historic ceramics district.

Main places

The Kyushu Ceramic Museum is about a twelve-minute walk from the station. The route climbs uphill, so a taxi may be preferable if you're carrying heavy bags or have limited mobility. Its collection traces ceramics from across Kyushu, including porcelain made for export.

Small inns and guesthouses are scattered around the station neighborhood. Check the actual distance before booking, as accommodation near Arita's kilns can be some way from the platforms.

Stations and access

JR limited express trains run directly from Hakata Station, while the Matsuura Railway connects Arita with Imari. Together, these routes let you visit both pottery towns without returning to Fukuoka between them.

The historic streets of Uchiyama extend toward Kami-Arita, which has a separate JR station. Pick the shops and workshops you most want to visit, then decide whether to walk, rent a bicycle, or use local transport between them.

Where it fits in a trip

An overnight stay near the railway leaves time for the museum and ceramics shopping before your onward train. This isn't one compact sightseeing zone. Group nearby visits together, and check opening days before committing to a route.
