Overview
Keage Station is a good choice once you are already in Kyoto and want rail access close to Nanzen-ji, the Lake Biwa Canal, Keage Incline, and hotels on the eastern side of Okazaki. It is less convenient for Shinkansen arrivals or heavy-luggage transfers, but it works well for sightseeing plans centered on the quieter temple-and-canal side of Kyoto-Higashiyama and Okazaki.
The station is small and straightforward, served by the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line. For some parts of eastern Okazaki, it can be a more natural stop than Higashiyama Station, especially when your plans are closer to Nanzen-ji than to the western side of the district.
Lines and connections
Keage is station T09 on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line, between Misasagi and Higashiyama Station. Westbound trains run toward Sanjo Keihan, Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae, Karasuma Oike, Nijo, and Uzumasa Tenjingawa. Eastbound trains run toward Misasagi, Yamashina, and Rokujizo, with some services continuing to Biwako-hamaotsu via the Keihan Keishin Line.
To reach Kyoto Station, transfer at Karasuma Oike to the Karasuma Line. The route is manageable for ordinary sightseeing, though travelers with larger bags may want to compare it with a taxi or bus route depending on where they are staying.
