Overview
Between Kumoji, central Kokusai Street, and the approach to Tomari Wharf, Miebashi Station serves travelers staying around Okiei Street or the northern side of Kokusai Street. Numbered 08 on Yui Rail, it gives this part of Naha-Kokusai Dori a direct monorail connection to Naha Airport.
It isn't a regional rail hub. Destinations beyond the monorail corridor still require a bus, taxi, ferry, or rental car.
Station background
Miebashi opened with the original Yui Rail route on August 10, 2003. The elevated line follows the Kumoji River corridor between Kencho-mae and Miebashi before turning toward Makishi.
Yui Rail introduced scheduled urban transport to a city heavily dependent on road travel. Its 2019 extension beyond Shuri to Tedako-Uranishi gave Miebashi through service into Urasoe as well as central Naha.
Lines and connections
The Okinawa Urban Monorail, commonly called Yui Rail, is Miebashi's only train service. Kencho-mae is the next stop toward Naha Airport, while Makishi is next toward Shuri and Tedako-Uranishi.
Take the up line for the airport. Down-line trains continue through Makishi, Omoromachi, and Shuri before reaching Tedako-Uranishi. Naha has no JR, Shinkansen, or subway network.
Airport access
Yui Rail travels directly from Miebashi to Naha Airport in 14 minutes, covering 6.7 kilometres without a transfer. The connection is straightforward, though reaching a hotel still involves an outdoor walk. Allow extra time with heavy luggage or in hot and rainy weather.
Station area
The station stands beside the Kumoji River, a few blocks north of Kokusai Street. Restaurants, Okinawan sweet shops, lacquerware stores, and local-goods shops fill the surrounding streets, with the central shopping corridor within walking distance.
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Naha is about five minutes away along Okiei Street. The street-level route isn't covered, and the hotel isn't connected to the station.
What's nearby
Kokusai Street runs through central Naha with shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Covered arcades and the streets around First Makishi Public Market branch from the main road, so the district extends well beyond a single shopping strip.
Northwest of the station, Tomari Wharf handles ferries to the Kerama Islands, Kume Island, the Daito Islands, and other nearby islands. Reaching it requires a separate walk. Check the ferry operator's departure point and leave enough time before sailing.
Good to know
Miebashi is closer to hotels around Okiei Street and the northern-central side of Kokusai Street. Makishi is often better for the street's eastern end and Tsuboya, so check your exact destination rather than choosing a stop from the neighborhood name alone.
Part of Kokusai Street becomes pedestrian-priority from noon to 6:00 PM on Sundays. Yui Rail continues to operate during the restriction, while JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Naha directs arriving drivers and taxi passengers to approach from the Miebashi side.
