Overview
Narita Station brings you into the town of Narita, within walking distance of the temple approach and its restaurants. This JR East station is separate from both Narita Airport and nearby Keisei Narita Station. If you're visiting the temple or spending a night in town before a flight, this is the stop to use when traveling by JR.
Keisei Narita Station is a short walk away on the east side. Although the two stations serve much the same town center, they have separate gates and platforms. Check the railway name in your route or hotel directions rather than relying on "Narita" alone.
Lines and connections
JR Narita Line trains run toward Chiba, where the route joins the Sobu Line toward Tokyo. Some rapid services continue directly to Tokyo Station, while other departures require a change at Chiba.
Other trains head toward Abiko or farther east through Chiba Prefecture. Not every Narita Line service goes to the airport, so check the destination display before boarding. Most Narita Express trains pass through without stopping. A few services do call at Narita. If you plan to use one, confirm that it stops and buy the required limited-express ticket in addition to the basic fare.
Airport access
Ordinary and rapid JR trains reach the airport in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Narita Airport Terminal 2-3 Station comes first, beneath Terminal 2, followed by the Terminal 1 station. Terminal 3 passengers should leave the train at Terminal 2 and continue on foot or by airport shuttle bus.
The ride is short, but waits can be longer. Airport-bound JR trains may be around an hour apart during the day, so choose a departure before leaving your hotel or heading out to explore. The rail time doesn't include the walk from the platform to your airline's check-in area.
Station area
Use the East Exit for the tourist information office, the walk to Keisei Narita Station, and the beginning of Naritasan Omotesando. The information office provides local maps and advice about sightseeing and events. Shops and hotels cluster around the two stations, while the temple approach continues through the older part of town.
What's nearby
Naritasan Omotesando runs for roughly 800 meters toward Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Eel restaurants, snack shops, and souvenir stores line the route. Allow about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the temple entrance without stopping, or longer if you plan to browse or have a meal.
The temple grounds contain large halls and a richly decorated three-story pagoda. Behind them, Naritasan Park adds ponds and wooded paths to the visit. Together, the approach street, temple, and park provide several hours of sightseeing without traveling farther from town.
