Overview

Gojo Ohashi Bridge is the landmark to remember. DoubleTree by Hilton Kyoto Higashiyama is one minute on foot from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, on the east side of the Kamo River. Keihan trains run north toward Gion-Shijo and Sanjo and south toward Fushimi-Inari and Tofukuji, so many days in eastern Kyoto can begin without a long bus ride across the city.

Kyoto Station is about two kilometers away, which means Shinkansen and airport-rail arrivals require a taxi or local transfer for the final leg. Once you've checked in, the public bath and 24-hour gym provide somewhere to reset before the next day out.

Rooms

One part of the room mix is distinctly Kyoto. Among the hotel's 158 rooms are 46 Japanese Rooms with tatami and an entrance where shoes come off. At the other end of the range, two 61-square-meter suites add private saunas and rain showers.

All rooms are non-smoking and have bathtubs. King and twin layouts cover the more conventional choices, while the Japanese Rooms and suites are worth comparing when the room itself should be part of the stay.

Facilities

The public bath is the main shared leisure facility and is especially welcome after a day on Higashiyama's slopes. The fitness center remains open 24 hours. There is no guest parking, so arriving by rail or taxi is simpler than driving.

Dining

OPEN serves meals from breakfast through dinner. Breakfast is a paid buffet, while later menus combine international comfort dishes with local ingredients and Kyoto influences. At the OPEN Lounge Bar, cocktails and locally produced sake are served beside views of a small courtyard garden.

Location and transport

The one-minute walk to Kiyomizu-Gojo is the hotel's clearest transport advantage. On the Keihan Main Line, Gion-Shijo Station and Sanjo lie to the north, while Fushimi-Inari and Tofukuji lie to the south. At Tofukuji, the JR Nara Line continues to Kyoto Station in one stop.

Gojo Station on the Karasuma subway line is about 15 minutes away on foot. It provides a direct subway ride to Kyoto Station, but the longer walk makes Keihan the more immediate choice for daily sightseeing.

Airport access

There is no hotel airport shuttle. From Kansai International Airport, the Haruka limited express runs directly to Kyoto Station, followed by a taxi or local rail connection to the hotel. In other words, the train is direct only as far as Kyoto Station, not to the hotel door.

Why stay here

Days focused on eastern Kyoto benefit most from this location. Gion, Fushimi Inari, and the Tofukuji area fit naturally into Keihan-based plans, while the public bath offers a welcome return after sightseeing. If the simplest Shinkansen arrival matters more than east-side access, staying closer to Kyoto Station may be preferable.

The surrounding Kyoto-Gion area rewards time on foot. A day can unfold through Kiyomizu's temple streets and pottery shops before continuing north toward Gion's teahouses and restaurants.

Good to know

The one-minute walk applies to Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, not Kiyomizu-dera. Reaching the temple takes considerably longer and involves uphill streets, so leave enough time for the approach.
