Overview
Choose Kiyomizu-Gojo Station when your destination is closer to Gojo or southern Higashiyama than to the busier Gion-Shijo area. This Keihan Main Line stop is on Kyoto's east side, south of Gion-Shijo Station, and works well for stays around the Gojo side of Kyoto-Gion, the Kamo River, and the western approach toward southern Higashiyama.
Lines and connections
Kiyomizu-Gojo is served by the Keihan Main Line. From here, northbound trains run toward Gion-Shijo, Sanjo, and Demachiyanagi, while southbound services connect toward Fushimi Inari, transfer routes for Uji, and Keihan destinations on the Osaka side.
This is not a long-distance rail hub. Travelers arriving in Kyoto by intercity train will usually reach the city's main rail hub first, then continue by taxi, bus, subway and rail transfer, or another local route.
Station area
The station serves the Gojo side of eastern Kyoto, close to the Kamo River and convenient for parts of southern Higashiyama. It can be the better choice over Gion-Shijo if your hotel, restaurant, or walking route is centered around Gojo or the Kiyomizu side of Higashiyama.
Good to know
Kiyomizu-Gojo and Gion-Shijo are separate Keihan stops. Use Kiyomizu-Gojo for Gojo and southern Higashiyama; use Gion-Shijo for central Gion, Shijo, Pontocho, and the Yasaka Shrine side of the district.
