Overview
Kyoto Granbell Hotel is a compact, design-minded hotel in Kyoto-Gion, well placed for exploring the traditional streets on Kyoto’s east side. Exit 6 of Gion-Shijo Station is about a two-minute walk away, and Hanamikoji Street, the Kamo River, Pontocho, and the historic district’s evening atmosphere are all close at hand.
Rooms
Rooms are compact, with Japanese-style double and twin options as well as Western-style double and twin rooms. Sizes range from about 17.5 to 23.3 square meters, making the hotel best suited to couples, solo travelers, and shorter city stays rather than guests who need large, multi-room layouts.
Facilities
One of the hotel’s main features is its basement public bath, which overlooks a courtyard and is open during morning and evening hours. Other on-site facilities include a lounge, coin laundry, vending machines, ice machines, a smoking area, and a currency exchange machine.
Dining
Breakfast is served as a Japanese and Western buffet, with Kyoto-style dishes among the choices. The hotel also has a bar for evening drinks, and the surrounding Gion, Shijo, and Pontocho areas offer plenty of places to eat within walking distance.
Location and transport
Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Main Line is the closest rail connection. Kyoto Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line is also nearby, about seven minutes away on foot. From Kyoto Station, the hotel is about 15 minutes by taxi, so it is better suited to Gion and east-side Kyoto sightseeing than to travelers who want to stay right by the Shinkansen platforms.
Why stay here
Choose Kyoto Granbell Hotel if you want to stay in Gion with convenient rail access, atmospheric evening streets nearby, breakfast on site, and a public bath to return to after sightseeing. It works especially well for a Kyoto trip centered on Gion, Pontocho, and the Kamo River rather than a simple overnight stop near Kyoto Station.
Good to know
The hotel does not have its own dedicated parking lot and recommends using public transportation. If you are driving, you will need to rely on nearby paid parking if spaces are available, so this is not the easiest choice for a car-based stay in Kyoto.
