Overview
NOHGA HOTEL KIYOMIZU KYOTO is a 207-room hotel on Gojo-dori in southern Higashiyama, a seven-minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. It works well for travelers who want to stay on Kyoto's temple side rather than beside Kyoto Station, with Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjusangendo, Yasaka Shrine, Gion, and Miyagawa-cho all treated by the hotel as nearby sights.
The hotel has a strong local design focus, drawing on Kyoto makers and in-house collaborations for furniture, tableware, lighting, speakers, scents, and bath amenities. The result is a more curated stay than a straightforward chain hotel, with food, music, craft, and room design all part of the experience.
Rooms
Rooms start with 19-square-meter Double rooms and extend through twin, king, junior suite, and 76-square-meter NOHGA Suite categories. Standard features include non-smoking rooms, free Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speakers, large TVs, fridges, safes, USB sockets, and streaming support for guests using their own accounts.
Some compact Double and Superior Double rooms have shower booths, while larger categories add more space and, in the suites, living areas and upgraded audio equipment. Families or small groups should focus on the Premium King, Deluxe Twin, or NOHGA Suite categories, since only selected room types sleep three or four guests.
Facilities
On-site facilities include a Technogym-equipped fitness room, a reservation-only meditation room, rental e-bikes, coin laundry, laundry service, and luggage delivery between the hotel, Kyoto Station, and some other Kyoto accommodations. The luggage delivery service is especially convenient if you plan to arrive or depart through Kyoto Station but prefer to stay closer to Kyoto-Gion.
Dining
CICON brings together the hotel's restaurant, bakery cafe, and rooftop bar. Breakfast includes bread from CICON Bakery and a choice of main dishes, while the restaurant uses a Josper oven and local ingredients such as Kyoto vegetables. In good weather, the rooftop bar looks out toward Higashiyama, Kiyomizu-dera, and Mount Hiei.
Location and transport
Kiyomizu-Gojo Station is the closest rail link, about seven minutes away on foot along Gojo Street. From there, the Keihan Line is convenient for Gion-Shijo, Sanjo, Fushimi Inari, and Osaka-side connections. Kyoto Station is better treated as a transfer point than as the hotel's immediate neighborhood.
Kyoto Station is about 10 minutes away by taxi or about 20 minutes by a combination of bus and walking.
Airport access
Airport access is transfer-based. Airport limousine buses can bring travelers to Kyoto Station, followed by a taxi or local bus for the final leg to the hotel.
Why stay here
Choose NOHGA HOTEL KIYOMIZU KYOTO if you want a design-forward Higashiyama stay with more food, music, and rooftop-bar character than a standard station-area hotel. Choose a Kyoto Station hotel instead if your trip depends on very early Shinkansen departures, luggage-heavy rail transfers, or the fastest possible airport-to-platform connection.
