What this station is useful for

Overview

Choose Hon-Kawagoe Station when your trip is built around the Seibu Shinjuku Line, Kawagoe Prince Hotel, or a walk through Crea Mall toward Kawagoe's old town. The stop anchors the Hon-Kawagoe Station Area on the old-town side of central Kawagoe and works well for travelers coming from the Shinjuku side of Tokyo.

It is close to the central shopping streets that lead toward Kawagoe's historic sights, but it is not the same place as Kawagoe Station. The two are close enough to walk between, yet they serve different rail networks and suit different travel plans.

Lines and connections

Hon-Kawagoe Station is served by the Seibu Shinjuku Line and is numbered SS29. It is Seibu's terminal on the Kawagoe side, with trains running toward Tokorozawa, Takadanobaba, and Seibu Shinjuku.

Depending on the timetable, limited express services from the Seibu Shinjuku side can make this a straightforward rail choice for a Kawagoe day trip. It is especially convenient when your first stop is Kawagoe Prince Hotel, Seibu Hon-Kawagoe PePe, Crea Mall, or the walking route toward the historic center.

Station area

Kawagoe Prince Hotel is directly connected to the station, and Seibu Hon-Kawagoe PePe is next to the rail complex. That makes the area easy to use on arrival, particularly for hotel guests or visitors who want shops and services close at hand before heading farther into town.

From here, Crea Mall and the central shopping streets lead north toward the Warehouse District, Toki no Kane, Candy Alley, temples, shrines, and other old-town stops. For many visitors, the appeal of Hon-Kawagoe is that sightseeing can begin as a gradual walk through central Kawagoe rather than with an immediate transfer.

What's nearby

Kawagoe Station is about a 10-minute walk away and serves the JR Kawagoe Line and Tobu Tojo Line. The two stations complement each other rather than replace each other: Hon-Kawagoe is better for Seibu access and the old-town approach, while Kawagoe Station is better for JR and Tobu routes, U_PLACE, and airport-bus planning.

If you need to move between the two, allow time for the walk, especially with luggage or when making a timed connection. The distance is manageable, but choosing the right stop in advance can make the start or end of a Kawagoe visit much smoother.

Good to know

Do not assume Hon-Kawagoe Station and Kawagoe Station are interchangeable. Choose Hon-Kawagoe for Seibu Shinjuku Line access, Kawagoe Prince Hotel, Seibu Hon-Kawagoe PePe, Crea Mall, and walks toward the historic center.

Choose the Kawagoe Station Area when JR or Tobu routes, station-side hotels, luggage handling, U_PLACE, or airport bus connections are more important to your plan.
