Overview
Choose Nihon-odori Station when your Yokohama plans are centered on the historic port district rather than a major rail interchange. This Minatomirai Line stop serves the Yokohama-Kannai side of central Yokohama, putting you close to civic buildings, Nihon Odori, Osanbashi Pier, Yokohama Park, Yokohama Stadium, and waterfront walking routes. It is especially convenient when you do not need to route through the larger hub at Yokohama Station.
Lines and connections
Nihon-odori is served by the Minatomirai Line and is numbered MM05. Trains connect directly with Yokohama Station, Minatomirai, Bashamichi, and Motomachi-Chukagai, with through services continuing beyond Yokohama on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. For travelers already using that corridor, this stop can be a straightforward way to reach the port-history side of the city without backtracking from larger JR or subway stations.
Station area
The surrounding streets have a civic and waterfront character. Nearby anchors include Kanagawa Prefectural Government buildings, the Naka Ward Office side of Kannai, Yokohama Park, Yokohama Stadium, museums, and the route toward Osanbashi Pier. The area is well suited to port-history walks, Osanbashi access, and visits to hotels or offices around Nihon Odori.
What's nearby
Yamashita Park, the Red Brick Warehouse area, and Motomachi-Chukagai are farther along the same Minatomirai Line corridor. Kannai and Bashamichi are on the inland side of the port district, so the best stop depends on which side of central Yokohama you plan to approach first. If your itinerary focuses on waterfront sightseeing or Osanbashi, Nihon-odori will often place you closer than Yokohama Station.
Good to know
Nihon-odori and Kannai Station serve nearby but distinct parts of central Yokohama. Use Nihon-odori for Minatomirai Line access, port-side walks, civic-district destinations, and Osanbashi. Choose Kannai when JR, the Blue Line, or the stadium-side station approach matters more. Yokohama Station remains the better choice for broad transfers, while Nihon-odori is more focused on final access to the port-side area.
