Overview
Sasashima-raibu Station serves the Aonami Line and provides rail access to Nagoya-Sasashima Live, a redeveloped district just south of Nagoya's main terminal area. For most visitors, it is the main rail stop for reaching Global Gate, nearby hotels, event venues, university buildings, and waterside public spaces.
Lines and connections
The station is on the Aonami Line as AN02. It is one stop south of Nagoya Station, with trains running north to Nagoya and south toward Kinjo-futo. Sasashima-raibu is best understood as a local access station rather than a major interchange.
Use Nagoya Station for the Tokaido Shinkansen, Meitetsu airport trains, Kintetsu, subway services, buses, and wider regional rail connections. Use Sasashima-raibu when your destination is within Sasashima Live or when you are staying at one of the hotels beside the redevelopment area.
Station area
The area around Sasashima-raibu is a newer, planned redevelopment district compared with the older streets around Nagoya Station. Global Gate is linked to the station by a pedestrian deck, and Nagoya Prince Hotel Sky Tower has direct station access through the Global Gate complex. The Strings Hotel Nagoya is also nearby, with its own access guidance describing the Aonami Line stop as a three-minute walk.
What's nearby
Nearby destinations include Global Gate, Zepp Nagoya, Market Square Sasashima, 109 Cinemas Nagoya, JICA Chubu, Aichi University Nagoya Campus, Chukyo TV, and Canal Park Sasashima. The area is more useful for hotels, events, offices, education, and dining than for traditional sightseeing.
Sasashima-raibu can also be used by travelers continuing along the Aonami Line toward Kinjo-futo, but most citywide transfers still take place at Nagoya Station. That distinction is worth keeping in mind when traveling with luggage or connecting from Shinkansen or airport trains.
Good to know
Sasashima-raibu is close to Nagoya Station but separate from the main terminal. Treat it as the access station for Sasashima Live, while Nagoya Station remains the main hub for long-distance trains, airport rail, subway transfers, and most onward travel.
