Overview
With direct airport trains and the Osaka Loop Line, Shin-Imamiya plays a bigger travel role than its position on the edge of Osaka-Shinsekai might suggest. JR West and Nankai share the interchange, while nearby Dobutsuen-mae adds subway routes through central Osaka.
The station serves two distinct needs. It is an arrival point for Shinsekai hotels and Tsutenkaku, as well as a transfer point between Nankai airport trains and JR services toward Osaka, Tennoji, Nara, and elsewhere in the city.
Lines and connections
JR serves Shin-Imamiya with the Osaka Loop Line and Yamatoji Line. Loop Line trains run directly toward Osaka Station, and Tennoji is one stop away. Depending on the train, Yamatoji services continue toward JR Namba in one direction or Nara in the other.
Nankai Shin-Imamiya is NK03 on both the Nankai Main Line and Koya Line corridor. Trains run north to Namba and south toward Kansai Airport, Wakayama, and the Koyasan side of the network. Service patterns vary, so check both the train type and platform.
Osaka Metro trains use neither the JR nor Nankai platforms. Dobutsuen-mae is the nearby subway stop for the Midosuji and Sakaisuji lines, while Shin-Imamiya-Ekimae on the Hankai tram line is also close.
Airport access
Nankai trains run directly between Shin-Imamiya and Kansai International Airport. Both the limited express Rapi:t and Airport Express stop here, so guests staying on the station's east and north sides don't need to return to Namba first.
The Rapi:t requires a limited-express ticket in addition to the basic fare, while Airport Express trains use an ordinary ticket. JR airport routes are also possible via Tennoji, but Nankai provides the simpler station-to-airport journey from Shin-Imamiya.
Station area
The east and north exits face the OMO7 Osaka side of the interchange. OMO7 Osaka by Hoshino Resorts stands directly in front of the station, with its large garden between the rail lines and the hotel building.
Shinsekai and Tsutenkaku are northeast of the station. Nankai's station guide places Tsutenkaku about ten minutes away on foot, while Dobutsuen-mae provides the more direct subway approach to Janjan Yokocho and the district's southern side.
What's nearby
Shinsekai is the main visitor draw, known for Tsutenkaku, kushikatsu restaurants, Janjan Yokocho, and old-style game arcades. Spa World and Tennoji Zoo are also within the wider station area, though the most convenient exits may be on the Dobutsuen-mae side.
Good to know
JR, Nankai, Osaka Metro, and the Hankai tram have separate gates and station names here. Shin-Imamiya refers to the JR and Nankai interchange; Dobutsuen-mae is the nearby subway station. Follow the operator and exit signs rather than assuming every platform shares a single concourse.
