Shin-Ochanomizu Station

Overview

South of the Kanda River, this Chiyoda Line stop serves Ochanomizu's university and shopping district. JR trains use nearby Ochanomizu Station, which has separate platforms and ticket gates. Check the line as well as the station name.

Lines and connections

Shin-Ochanomizu is C12 on Tokyo Metro's Chiyoda Line. Otemachi is the next stop toward Yoyogi-uehara, while the same line continues to Omotesando's shopping streets and Meiji-jingumae for Harajuku.

The connected subway complex also includes Awajicho on the Marunouchi Line and Ogawamachi on the Toei Shinjuku Line. Follow the transfer signs for your line; each has separate platforms. For JR Chuo Rapid trains toward Tokyo or Shinjuku, or Chuo-Sobu Local services, leave the subway and walk to Ochanomizu Station.

Station area

Exit B1 is on the JR Ochanomizu side, near the musical-instrument shops and university buildings. B2 leads to Ochanomizu Sola City and the route toward Ochanomizu Hotel Juraku, about two minutes away on foot. The approach to the hotel runs downhill along Awajizaka beside the railway.

Farther along the subway complex, B5 serves the sporting-goods shops around Kanda-Ogawamachi and the secondhand-book district. Choosing the right exit can save you from doubling back through the neighborhood.

What's nearby

The Tokyo-Jimbocho / Ochanomizu area is known for specialist shops. Browse guitars and other instruments around Ochanomizu, or continue toward Jimbocho for secondhand books and cafes before taking the subway across central Tokyo.

Good to know

B2 has an elevator to street level. If you're carrying luggage, check the exit map before heading upstairs because the JR entrance and the Ogawamachi end of the subway complex are in different directions.
