Shinjuku-sanchome Station

Overview

For Shinjuku's eastern shopping and dining streets, Shinjuku-sanchome Station can be simpler to use than Shinjuku Station. The Tokyo Metro Marunouchi and Fukutoshin lines meet the Toei Shinjuku Line here, giving travelers three subway routes without a return to the much larger main rail complex.

The location favors hotels, shops, and restaurants east of the main rail hub, as well as plans around Shinjuku Gyoen. Shinjuku Station remains the better option when JR, Odakyu, Keio, airport trains, or highway buses are the priority.

Lines and connections

The Marunouchi, Fukutoshin, and Toei Shinjuku lines connect Shinjuku-sanchome with destinations across central Tokyo. That combination is especially helpful when your trip relies on subway travel rather than JR or private railway services.

Although Shinjuku-sanchome and Shinjuku Station are close within the wider district, they aren't interchangeable. They are separate stops. Check the line and station name shown on your route before setting out.

Station area

Exits are spread across the Shinjuku-sanchome shopping and entertainment area. Exit C3 is especially convenient for Tokyu Stay Shinjuku, while other exits lead toward the department-store streets and Shinjuku Gyoen.

Shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, and bars keep the surrounding streets active well into the evening. If you're carrying luggage, staying near the correct exit can be considerably easier than crossing the district from the main JR station.

What's nearby

Isetan Shinjuku and the wider east-side shopping district are close by. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is also in the surrounding area, allowing daytime sightseeing, shopping, dining, and nightlife to fit naturally into a stay on this side of Shinjuku.

Shinjuku-sanchome is not part of the main JR Shinjuku Station complex. Use the exact station name when checking directions, then match the exit to your hotel or destination before leaving the platforms.
