What this station is useful for

Overview

Kawaramachi Station is the main Kotoden transfer station in central Takamatsu and the rail anchor for Takamatsu-Kawaramachi. It is the better reference point for travelers staying near the inland shopping streets, Chuo Park, and central airport bus stops, while Takamatsu Station is the stronger anchor for JR trains, ferries, and the waterfront.

Lines and connections

The station is operated by Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad, commonly known as Kotoden. It is served by the Kotohira Line as K02, the Nagao Line as N02, and the Shido Line as S00. The Kotohira Line connects Takamatsu-Chikko with Kotoden-Kotohira, the Nagao Line runs toward Nagao, and the Shido Line runs east toward Kotoden-Shido.

All three Kotoden lines meet at Kawaramachi. This matters because travelers starting from Takamatsu-Chikko Station need to change here for Shido Line trains, while Kotohira Line and Nagao Line services continue toward the waterfront side of the city.

Airport access

Takamatsu Airport access is by limousine bus rather than rail. Kotoden's airport bus information lists Kawaramachi among the central Takamatsu stops, so hotels near this station can be practical before or after flights if the bus stop matches your luggage route. Travelers using JR trains, ferries, or port-side hotels should compare this with the Takamatsu Station and Takamatsu-Chikko stops.

Station area

Kawaramachi is closer to Takamatsu's central shopping streets and dining blocks than the waterfront station area. It works especially well for city-center hotels, Kotoden trips toward Ritsurin Garden, and routes that continue toward Kotohira, Nagao, or Shido.

The station also helps separate two different Takamatsu bases. Choose Kawaramachi for shopping streets, inland hotels, Kotoden transfers, and airport bus access. Choose the Takamatsu Station Area when JR rail, ferry departures, port access, or waterfront logistics are the main reason for the stay.

Good to know

Kawaramachi is not a JR station. For Yosan Line, Kotoku Line, Seto-Ohashi rail routes, ferries, and port-side plans, use Takamatsu Station and nearby Takamatsu-Chikko as the main reference points.
