Overview
Tanimachi 4-chome Station is an Osaka Metro interchange in central Osaka, where the Tanimachi Line and Chuo Line meet on the southwest side of the Osaka Castle Area. It is a practical subway stop for Osaka Castle Park, Naniwa Palace Ruins Park, the Osaka Museum of History, and Patina Osaka.
Lines and connections
The station is served by the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line as T23 and the Osaka Metro Chuo Line as C18. Tanimachi Line trains run toward Dainichi and Yao-minami, while Chuo Line trains run toward Yumeshima and Gakken-Nara-Tomigaoka. Morinomiya Station is one stop to the east on the Chuo Line.
This combination is useful for visitors heading to the castle side of central Osaka without transferring at a major terminal. The Chuo Line also links the area with Honmachi Station, where some routes from Shin-Osaka connect from the Midosuji Line.
Station area
The station is closest to the government and museum side of the castle district, rather than the JR-facing east side of the park. Osaka Castle Park is about six minutes on foot from Exit 1-A, and the Osaka Museum of History is near exits 2 and 9.
Naniwa Palace Ruins Park is another major landmark nearby. The park preserves remains connected with Osaka's time as an ancient capital, making this station a good choice for combining castle sightseeing with history-focused stops around Otemae and Hoenzaka.
What's nearby
Patina Osaka is about 600 meters from the station, or roughly an eight-minute walk. The surrounding streets feel more civic and cultural than entertainment-oriented, shaped by the museum, palace ruins, park approaches, and Osaka Castle itself.
Good to know
Tanimachi 4-chome is best for the southwest side of the castle area. Travelers who want the JR Osaka Loop Line or the southeast side of Osaka Castle Park should also compare Morinomiya Station, one stop east on the Chuo Line. For hotel logistics in Umeda, Namba, or Shin-Osaka, this station is usually more useful as a sightseeing stop than as a broad transport base.
