Overview
Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station is the Nishitetsu rail terminal in central Tenjin, serving the Fukuoka-Tenjin area's shopping, dining, hotels, and bus-terminal connections. It is the right station for southbound private-rail trips from Tenjin, not for subway travel to Hakata or Fukuoka Airport.
Lines and connections
The station is served by the Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta Line and is numbered T01. Local, express, and limited express trains run south through Yakuin, Nishitetsu Futsukaichi, Nishitetsu Kurume, Nishitetsu Yanagawa, and Omuta.
For visitors, the station is especially useful for trips beyond central Fukuoka. To reach Dazaifu, take the Tenjin Omuta Line to Nishitetsu Futsukaichi and transfer to the Dazaifu Line. Yanagawa is served by limited express trains from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin), making this an important departure point for canal-town day trips as well as travel toward Kurume and Omuta.
Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) is near Tenjin Station on the Airport Line and Tenjin-minami Station on the Nanakuma Line, but they are separate stations with their own entrances. Use Tenjin Station for the direct subway to Fukuoka Airport and Hakata Station. Use Tenjin-minami for Nanakuma Line trips, including direct subway service to Hakata from the south side of Tenjin.
Station area
The station is part of Tenjin's main retail district, close to department stores, shopping malls, Tenjin Chikagai, Solaria-side buildings, restaurants, hotels, and the Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal. It is a practical base for travelers staying around south Tenjin, Watanabe-dori, Imaizumi, Kego, or Daimyo who also want easy access to Nishitetsu trains.
Good to know
Tenjin is a cluster of stations, not a single shared platform complex. Check the operator and line before following signs: Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) is for Nishitetsu trains, Tenjin is for the Airport Line, Tenjin-minami is for the Nanakuma Line, and the nearby bus terminal serves expressway buses.
