What this station is useful for

Overview

Yokohama's Tokaido Shinkansen stop is Shin-Yokohama Station, north of the city's main waterfront districts. It is convenient for Yokohama Arena events, but it is separate from Yokohama Station in central Yokohama.

Central Yokohama is farther south. The Blue Line connects the two stations directly in about 11 minutes. If your plans focus on waterfront walks or evenings in the city center, staying around Yokohama Station or Minato Mirai will usually be more convenient.

Lines and connections

The Tokaido Shinkansen runs east to Shinagawa and Tokyo and west toward Nagoya, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka. For local trips, the JR Yokohama Line crosses northern Yokohama, while the Blue Line provides a direct ride to Yokohama Station.

Tokyu and Sotetsu through services continue toward central Tokyo and western Kanagawa. Depending on where you're going, these trains may avoid a transfer at Yokohama Station.

Airport access

Direct buses connect Shin-Yokohama Station with all three Haneda Airport terminals. They can simplify the trip with luggage, although road traffic and the terminal served affect journey times. Check the current timetable before relying on the bus for a flight.

Station area

The surrounding Shin-Yokohama Station Area centers on offices, hotels, events, and travel-day convenience. Cubic Plaza is the main shopping and dining complex, with meals, snacks, souvenirs, and everyday services near the gates. It's a straightforward place to eat or pick up supplies before a Shinkansen departure.

What's nearby

Yokohama Arena is about four to five minutes away on foot, depending on the line and exit. The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum is about five minutes from the JR or Shinkansen north exit, or about one minute from Exit 10 for the subway, Tokyu, and Sotetsu lines. Event crowds can make these walks take longer.

Good to know

Shin-Yokohama and Yokohama Station are separate stops, not neighboring entrances to the same rail complex. Check the station name on your Shinkansen booking, event directions, or hotel confirmation before setting out.
